Nashville International Airport: No More Eeny, Meeny, Miney, Moe

Last week, the Nashville International Airport decided to mix things up a little. Instead of trying to pick the security line that has the lowest number of dawdling tourists, travelers at BNA will now be identifying themselves as “Families,” “Casual Travelers” or “Expert Travelers.” Expert travelers are, as one might expect, those who fly very frequently and fly light. On the other hand, a casual traveler seems to be someone who also is familiar with TSA regulations, but may have multiple carry on items. Where are all of the dawdling tourists supposed to go? Oh, in the “Family” line, of course! Travelers who may need assistance or are unfamiliar with the TSA drill get to stand in line with the small children. Unfortunately, none of these changes mean that we can keep our shoes on. [WKRN]

Photo Of The Day: September 30, 2008
A few weeks back, a couple hundred people got together in Centennial Park for one big epic pillow fight. Mr. Tooley brings us right to the center of the action with this dizzying shot.
Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry–we’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Bright & Early: Crisis Management Edition
Good morning, Nashville. If you’re reading this, you must have survived the Great Wall Street Crash of Aught Eight yesterday. We heard a rumor that we were supposed to run out and stock up on gas! Okay, okay, we kid. Financial experts in Nashville are actually telling us NOT to panic. “You take the money out [of the bank] and keep it in cash then somebody might hit you in the head and take the money from you,” they say. Words to live by. Oh, and in case you’re keeping score, Rep. Marsha Blackburn voted against the bailout.
- Not bitter. Turns out that hosting a Presidential debate is hella expensive. The total cost is somewhere around $3.5M with $215K being devoted to Metro Police alone. And after all that, we don’t even get to go.
- ADA fail. The US Department of Justice is suing several Nashville apartment complexes for slacking off on ADA requirements and not providing facilities for the disabled.
- Bits & pieces. Nashville has its very own bridge–er, sidewalk–to nowhere … The DoJ reports that a former US attorney in Nashville may have been axed for political reasons … Purity Dairies is ending its ice cream factory tours for good … For the first time ever in the history of Tennessee, the state Supreme Court will have a female majority.

Happy Hour: Wall Street’s Not The Only One Getting Tanked
- The economy might very well be tanking, but it’s good to know that somewhere in the world, Kenny Chesney is dreaming up a new kind of rum that promises a “vacation in a bottle.” We’re gonna need one unless we can find a way to bump CNN off the air for a few days. [Tennessean]
- And in the meantime, we’ve finally managed to put the gas crisis behind it (or actually just give it to Charlotte and Atlanta) and there’s plenty of it here to go around. [WSMV]
- What else does Nashville have in abundance? Pumpkins. Lots and lots and lots of pumpkins. [WTVF]
- And once again, Nashville waves a proud blue flag in the middle of a very red state. [Tennessean]
- Clearly the most important news of the day: We heard mumurings of a possible Bret Michaels bus sighting yesterday, and it looks like the rumors have been substantiated: Michaels is at the Wildhorse Saloon tonight filming his Rock of Love reality show. Bonus points and lots of love to anyone who sends us a picture. [Tennessean]
- Speaking of celebrities and whatnot, we be remiss to leave out Mindy McCready, who starts her 60-day sentence tomorrow for a probation violation. [WTVF]

Wanted: Stripper Pole [Gems From The Nashville Craigslist]

Someone in Nashville is looking for a stripper pole on Craigslist. We should probably drag ours out of the attic and give them a call. You know, as a service to our community. Thanks to Brenda for the tip!

Fresh of of yesterday’s win, we’ve got Titans fever here at Nashvillest. Flickr user WJ11 took this photo at LP Field after the team’s 31-12 win against Houston.

Bright & Early: 4-0, Titans, 4-0 Edition
Good morning, Nashville. When the Titans ran off with their fourth win of the season yesterday against the Vikings, we witnessed a sweet, sweet moment in history. So far, our boys are 4-0 which has never happened in the entire 49-year history of the Titans franchise. They’re set to square off against Baltimore next Sunday, who’s beat them the last eight times they’ve played. If the last four games have been any indication, though, we’re in for one heck of a season. And that’s not even counting Vince Young.
- If only it weren’t the Yankees. Two airport cops at BNA went way above and beyond the call of duty this weekend when they found a lost ticket for one of the last games ever to be played at Yankee Stadium. After calling around, they tracked down the woman who lost it and were able to send it with an American Airlines pilot on the next flight to LaGuardia. “I don’t consider I did something great,” said one of the cops. “I just did my job.” Aww.
- Politics as usual. Several ministers around the country used the pulpit to endorse presidential candidates in violation of the IRS’s rules against it. With such endorsements, the churches could risk their tax exempt status. Luckily no one was dumb enough to do it in Nashville.
- Bits & pieces. Titans fans checked and the Shelby Street Bridge still reeks … Murfreesboro homeless shelter director arrested for assaulting a resident … Crazy ‘Noogan puts away 93 Krystal burgers in 8 minutes (to be fair, he’s from California but he pulled the stunt in the ‘Noog) … It may actually get cold this week … We dream of the day we can call 911 in Nashville and not be put on hold. The new director is trying to make it happen.

Happy Hour: Let’s Do This Right
- Bladderpods are back in the news and Lebanon still hasn’t found a way around them. Okay, so we really just wanted an excuse to use the word “bladderpod” again. [Pith In The Wind]
- The Ole Miss debate’s back on for tonight despite the economic meltdown, so all you Belmonters can breathe easy. That also means you guys actually have to pay attention to that CRITICAL DEBATE08 STUDENT PARKING UPDATE they blasted us with in the middle of the night last night. [WSMV]
- If you want some company in watching it all go down, here’s a list of tonight’s watch parties around town, or you can even go crash Sean Braisted’s birthday party if you want. [Tennessean]
- But even though the debate can go on, Mayor Dean’s capital budget apparently can’t. [Tennessean]
- McGavock High School was put on lockdown after some nebulous rumors of violence. [WSMV]
- Franklin Elementary had an even better day today, having picked up a registered sex offender rolling around in the grass outside. [WKRN]
- And finally, TennCare recipients are fighting back against the state that eliminated their home care out of the budget by filing a pretty big lawsuit. [WKRN]

Flickr user dwneese took this well-composed shot of some, uh, interesting lighting fixtures in the Hotel Preston lobby. We love lamp?
