- A 25-year-old man is dead after police say two cars exchanged gun fire in East Nashville near a couple of popular restaurants at around 6:30 p.m Tuesday evening. Police are reviewing surveillance footage.
- A Nashville man says he attacked his neighbor with an ax after their dog ate his chickens. The attack happened of Clarksville Pike in Northwest Nashville.
- Mayor David Briley kicked off a campaign yesterday to plant a half million trees in Nashville by 2020 called Root Nashville. You can request a tree or register a tree you have planted yourself on the website.
- Separately, the mayor addressed the Downtown Nashville Partnership’s annual meeting where he highlighted the growth of the city and his support for public-private partnerships. A report released at the the meeting says that downtown Nashville has added $6.5 billion in new construction since 2000.
- William Swann has been named the Director Chief of the Nashville Fire Department after serving in an interim role since 2017. He is the first African American to lead the city’s fire department.
- City administrators are suspending the issuance of Tax Increment Financing (TIF) loans for developers as those programs have drawn increased scrutiny in a tight budget year. The plans allow developers to pay for specific requirements on a site, such as parking or infrastructure improvements, with future tax collections.
- News Channel 5 says that people are quitting their jobs because of Nashville’s difficult traffic and long commutes. A staffing firm says that 27 percent of those surveyed cited a terrible commute as their reason for leaving their job.
- The Capitol View development off Charlotte will include a Publix grocery store set to open in 2019. Separately, Whole Foods is expected to open at the Nashville Yards development off Broadway.

- A New York City police officer has been arrested and charged with aggravated burglary stemming from an incident earlier this year where police say he mistook a woman’s home for his Airbnb. He has been suspended from the NYPD.
- The Metro Council recently accepted an $84,000 grant to build an “Ambubus” (thinking ambulance plus bus) to handle a mass casualty event in the city. The vehicle will be used for non-life-threatening injuries to move people to a nearby hospital.
- The guy who hit a cyclist along Natchez Trace Parkway has been ordered back to jail after he prematurely left an in-patient alcohol treatment facility and then arrived intoxicated to the Nashville International Aiport.
- We’re not sure if it’s true yet, but the Nashville Christmas Parade appears to have removed all references to Kid Rock as this year’s Grand Marshall. Maybe it was a scheduling conflict?
- Former President Jimmy Carter’s affordable housing initiative was awarded $1 million from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency yesterday. The Carter Work Project plans to build 20 homes next year in North Nashville.
- Tennessee State University football player Christion Abercrombie’s condition is said to be improving following a serious head injury sustained during last weekend’s game against Vanderbilt University. The university has held prayer vigils over the past few days.
- Retired Sgt. Robert Forrest will receive about $1,000 less in his annual pension after auditors calculated the inappropriate overtime stemming from his admitted extramarital affair with former mayor Megan Barry. The 31-year veteran of the police force will receive about $73,000 annually.
- Students in nearby Lebanon are working to develop beehives to sell to local keepers that have been devastated by colony collapse. The school received a grant to help cover the costs. ?
