- Supporters of Amendment 1 to create a community oversight board are criticizing the mayor’s office for withholding what they say is important information for voters until after the election. The Policing Project is expected to release its Nashville report on November 19.
- The Contributor, a publication produced and sold by Nashville’s homeless community since 2007, has laid off its entire paid staff and is reverting back to its original newspaper format after some time as a magazine. Vendors struggled to sell the $5 magazine.
- A metro audit report found that employees may have accepted tickets to sit in a vendor’s box seats at Bridgestone Arena. The report follows a separate investigation that the vendor had been contracted sidewalks that were not approved by the Metro Council.
- A woman was arrested Wednesday with more than 40 fraudulent debit cards in her possession, tipped off when bank security noticed her use seven different cards to remove money. The Secret Service is joining the investigation.
- Historic Nashville Inc. has released its annual “Nashville Nine” report, which features several historic buildings on Music Row and four working class neighborhoods that are most threatened by development. The report aims to raise public awareness of the history of the buildings in an effort to preserve them.
- It has been a recurring theme, but two groups are again reminding city leaders that Nashville’s streets are not safe enough for pedestrians. And that is to say nothing of being hit by a scooter. ?
- Protestors briefly interrupted a campaign event at the CabaRay dinner theater venue in Bellevue for Rep. Marsha Blackburn, who is seeking a U.S. Senate seat against former Governor Phil Bredesen. There’s a joke in there somewhere about a Ray Stevens song.
- The steam locomotive that has been at Centennial Park since 1953 will soon say goodbye and head on to a company that intends to restore it working order. It is the last remaining of its kind.
- An abandoned Sprouts Farmers Market project in East Nashville looks to be replaced by Publix, which explains the collective cheer you’re hearing from the other side of the river. The news tip was discovered when plans identified the company’s name in the description for a proposed trash compactor. ?
- A man was arrested Thursday for attempting to break into cars in Antioch while naked. ?
- The Nashville Predators (8-3-0) beat the New Jersey Devils (5-2-1) in overtime 4-3 Thursday night on the road before dropping a 5-3 game at home against the Edmonton OIlers (6-3-1) despite forward Filip Forsberg’s hat trick. The Predators host the Vegas Golden Knights (4-5-1) tomorrow night.
- The Vanderbilt football team (4-5) picked up a critical win against the University of Arkansas (2-7) 45-31 to keep their bowl hopes alive. They are on their bye week next week before traveling to Missouri on November 10.
