Nashvillest Loves You: Hannah’s “Nashville Boroughs” Poster Giveaway

Every now and then, we stumble across local artists doing things we really love, and occasionally they even want to share their talents with Nashvillest and our readers! Hannah Schmitt, a local graphic designer, came up with the idea of creating a Nashville “boroughs” poster as she looked for something similar to hang in her own home. Says Hannah:

I designed these based on the old school style destination blinds that they would hang in train station windows showing the various destinations the trains would be going to.  I wanted one but when shopping around, realized I couldn’t spend the NINE hundred dollars they’re going for and decided to make my own– and then share them with Nashville!

The result was an affordable, customizable, uniquely-Nashville art piece, and we’re kind of drooling over it. And we have one to give away to a lucky Nashvillest reader! You can enter to win one of two ways, or do both and be entered to win twice!

1. Leave a comment on this post, and tell us your favorite thing about Nashville. Your comment must include a valid email address to qualify (don’t worry, we’re the only ones who can see it, and we won’t use your email address for anything except to notify you if you win!).

2. Tweet about this contest. The easiest way is to retweet this tweet! To qualify, your tweet must include the hashtag #nashvillest and the original bit.ly link (http://bit.ly/nash_poster), and follow us @nashvillest (so we can DM you if you win). Also, if your account is protected, be sure to authorize us to follow you back! You can’t win if we can’t see your tweet.

The contest ends at 12pm CDT on Friday, July 16, so get your entries in before then! More than two entries will result in disqualification. You must have a mailing address in the lower 48 US states to win.

Of course, winning isn’t the only way to get your hands on one of these babies. The posters are 12×35″, printed on a thick, matte paper, and can be purchased framed ($60) or unframed ($35) at Hannah’s Etsy store. Don’t see your favorite part of Nashville on the poster? She’ll gladly customize one for you.

UPDATE: The winner has been chosen! Congratulations to Taylor M (@veritas3241), and thanks to everyone else for your amazing entries. We had a great time watching the Nashville love fest grow in our comments section.

My favorite thing about Nashville is the amazing balance between cultured big city and relaxed small town. I grew up in Nashville but moved to Knoxville 8 years ago and I miss/love it so much that I named my dog Nash!

If it were up to me, I'd have Inglewood (where I grew up) and 21st Ave (where I spent loads of my time) on the poster:)

Favorite thing about Nashville: the big feel of an urban city with the hospitality of a small town. (Plus, MUCH less traffic than Atlanta!)

My favorite part about Nashville is all the friendly faces you recognize or know while you are out and about. No way you can find that in another city that has so much culture, music, great food, and great sports.

This piece is amazing! I go to school in Nashville, and my favorite thing about Nashville is the Trolley Hop between art galleries. There's nothing I like more than art, wine, and trollies with good friends!

My favorite thing about Nashville is that there's always not just something to do here, there's 15 somethings to do!

My favorite thing is how uniquely wonderful we are. Not quite as “weird” as my native Austin, but certainly “unique” in how creative, kind, and enduring we are as a community.

Favorite thing about Nashville: It has a big-city feel (at least, food and entertainment) with a small-town heart. Just look at the way we all came together to take care of each other after the flood.

My favorite thing about Nashville is the character of each different area around the city. Each area feels like a small town in itself. The 'city' of Nashville is a patchwork of all these smaller 'towns'. This is what creates such a dynamic community in Nashville, because these places know they can't survive without the others.

My favorite thing about Nashville is that there is so much culture and diversity anywhere you go, be it East Nashville, the Gulch, or Nippers Corner. There are things to do everywhere and new things happening every day. I grew up in a small town and Nashville is just the right size city for anyone looking to branch out of their comfort zone and broaden horizons. :) This print is great and East Nashville is my home so I look forward to getting a print for myself, contest winner or not! :)

i love how nashville has the best of both worlds: tons of big city conveniences, but just a few miles down the road in every direction is beautiful countryside and places to enjoy the outdoors!

When I first moved here I saw two guys walking down the street. One in long black cut off jean shorts, black shirt, lots of chains, and a mowhawk that must've been a foot tall. The other in cowboy cut Wranglers, a pearl snap shirt that was so starched it would stand up on its own, and a cowboy hat. These guys appeared to be so opposite, but they were laughing about something and having a good time. That's when I knew Nashville is a place you can be whatever you want, and find people who will be your friend, as different as you might be. That's why I love Nashville.

  • Amanda Lynn

my fav… so hard to pick just one… it's small enough but big enough to have some of the most amazing food, music, people, shopping, gyms, nightlife, (did I say food), art… you name it. It takes a certain type of town (Nashville) to be small enough to keep our culture from getting too diluted/inaccessible, and large enough to grow that culture into something truly beautiful and unique.

My favorite thing about Nashville is the FOOD.

  • laurakathleen

I love Nashville because it feels like a community–things like free movies and concerts in the park, seeing the whole city come together after the flood–those make me feel like I'm at home. I love being a part of it and its unique culture–that it's more than just country music. I could go on and on…!

This city knows how to relax. You can work hard all day, and even when you're going out with your coworkers, you can leave work behind and enjoy each other's company as friends. I don't know another place like that. At least not another place that's as otherwise awesome as Nashville.

My favorite thing about Nashville is how welcoming everyone was when I was new to town four years ago. It's a city with its own identities, but always adds new flavors and sounds with each new resident.

that no matter where I go or how long I am away …
once I get back to Nashville I know I'm HOME.

Favorite things about Nashville: “20 minutes” is the default driving time from any point A to point B; there are so many neighborhoods, there is probably one to suit every individual style; people still wave a hand of thanks when driving! There's so much art, culture, entertainment…so many things to do, but wide open spaces are only 20 minutes away!

  • E. Chadwick

my favorite thing about nashville: the people are amazingly friendly!

  • lauraclick

I love that there is so much to do in Nashville, but yet, the city still has such a small-town feel. As someone who grew up in a small community, that's important to me. How Nashville responded to the flood demonstrates just that.

While I love the music, the food, the art, the shops and the sports, it's the people here that Nashville such a great place to live. I'm lucky to know Hannah and the lovely ladies behind Nashvillest, and they are the shining examples of what makes this city great.

Just moved here from Charleston, SC and this poster would be a great checklist of places I need to experience ( still don't know what or where a “gulch” is). My favorite thing, so far, are the lightning bugs. We don't have them in Charleston and they make sittin' on my front porch a delight!

  • http://nashvillest.com morganlevy

Welcome to Nashville! The Gulch is just south of Broadway on 11th/12th Ave. It's a little urban area with shopping (Urban Outfitters, Nashville Clothing Company), housing (lots of new condos and lofts), food (Sambuca, Ru Sans, Urban Flats, Cantina Laredo), coffee (Casablanca), drinks (Yazoo Brewery is just around the corner on Division Street) and more. Again, welcome!

  • Katy Maki

There is so much to love about Nashville. I love the feel Nashville has of a small town in a large city. I love the different neighborhoods-from Belmont/12 South to East Nashville to Downtown to Franklin. I love the southern hospitality and warm faces of the people. I love the music scene and all the amazing talented friends/people I am surrounded by. But most of all, with the devastation that the flood brought, I love how this city all came together and served each other selflessly. Without the attention needed, we were still able to wow the nation and those who came to volunteer. It was because of this city and its people that we didn't turn into a Katrina. I <3 Nashville
