Happy Hour: Ready, Set, Fight

  • We’re not sure which is funnier: The fact that Stephen Colbert almost had a Knoxville building named after him, the honorary parking space they gave him instead, or guy holding up Colbert’s honorary parking sign in all of the photos whose name is “Chuck Morris.” [KnoxNews]
  • Or maybe that everyone’s favorite blogging state rep Stacey Campfield was escorted out of a UT football game because he was wearing a Mexican wrestler’s mask and then mouthed off to the police when he was asked to remove it. [WSMV]
  • Our foreclosure rates here in Tennessee aren’t rising quite as quickly as other states, so that’s cause for celebration. [Post Business]
  • If you’ve ever wanted to participate in one of Vanderbilt’s clinical trials (or, say, you wanted to  volunteer your infant for an experimental swine flu vaccine), they just launched a website to make that easier than ever. [WPLN]
  • Thanks to that $2 million Parks & Rec deficit we told you about a few weeks ago, the department will now be shutting down five community centers and probably laying off 55 people to try to recoup the loss. [City Paper]

Nashville’s First Chipotle Opens Friday; Free Burritos Tomorrow [Freebies]

You read that right. Our months of waiting are over, and Nashville’s first Chipotle opens at 2825 West End Ave this Friday at 3pm with goodies for the first 100 burrito-buyers, and the opportunity to win a year of free burritos!

But there’s even better news: We don’t have to wait ’till Friday to get our Chipotle on. Tomorrow (Wednesday), everyone’s invited to stop by between 11am-7pm to grab a burrito, and it’s on the house! It’s true. Tomorrow, Chipotle will be doling out the free burritos. We’re expecting long lines and a lot of happy people, and you can count us among them.

Here’s a little something for the Chipotle superfans: Is Chipotle In Nashville Yet?

Bright & Early: Takes All Kinds Edition

Good morning, Nashville. If you’ve been in this town for a few years, you may remember the feuding between Metro and the Nashville Sounds about a new stadium by the riverfront that never ended up happening. To say that things got tense would be an understatement, as Metro decided show us all how they really felt by bulldozing a chunk of the Sounds’ parking lot on opening day. The team has since changed ownership and the city has changed mayors, so the possibility of a new stadium may be back on the table. Metro officials and the Sounds owners met a few weeks ago to discuss three potential locations for the project and although nothing is definite, we expect to be hearing more in the coming months.
