Nashvillest Has Friends!
We at Nashvillest would love to send a HUGE ‘thank you‘ to our friends at Music City Bloggers and Nashville is Talking for sending traffic our way. Also, Chris Wage and Aunt B., two of our favorite Nashville bloggers, and our new Twitter friends (especially Jeffrey Davis for Stumbling us) and Flickr contributors–we love you guys, too. A special thanks to David Cintron who got us set up and knows more about computers and the internets than we do, and to Levi Kennedy for donating the server space. Nashvillest sure has friends in high places, and we could use all the help we can get.
Speaking of help, we’ve mentioned it before, but we’re in real need of some folks who love sports since we don’t know much about that. Sure, we love us some fantasy flag football, but Nashville’s got plenty of other great teams that deserve more attention than we can give them. We’re sort of in the same situation with food. We like to eat as much as the next people, but we miss a lot. So if any of that tickles your fancy and you’d like to see yourself on Nashvillest, email us!
Anyway, we’re so excited about being a part of the Nashville blogging community and swapping stories with you guys in the months to come. If there’s anything we’re not doing or covering that you want to see here, let us know! Just leave us a comment or shoot us an email at tips@nashvillest.com.

Fantasy Flag Football, Or That’s What They Want You To Think

Nashvillest attended a fantasy flag football game last night, or so it seems. Regardless of what the Nashville Sports League says, we promise you that a couple of intense flag football games went down last night between Banditos vs. Big Love and Banditos vs. TBD, and there’s a few more to come. Teams play Monday nights at the Boys & Girls Club on Thompson Lane. It looks like games for this season only run through next week, so take this opportunity to show up and cheer for the Banditos, because theirs is the only schedule we can find on the intarwebs.

Happy Hour: Taking the High Road
- Hopefully you don’t use premium, since the average cost hit $4.01 per gallon in Nashville today according to the latest AAA survey. And we hear it isn’t going down any time soon. [Tennessean]
- News Channel 5 now does a “Crime of the Week” feature. They have to give criminals something to strive for, right? [WTVF]
- Nashvillian “road warrior” Dierks Bentley is among 25 men to be slapped with the prestigious “Fittest Guy in America” title by Men’s Fitness. We guess that’s why we don’t see him around much anymore, since he says he’s worked out in every gym in America. Barack Obama also made the list. [WTVF]
- Titans linebacker Ryan Fowler wants to get back in the game after shoulder rehab, but Coach Jeff Fisher isn’t so sure. [Tennessean]
- As if Metro and state troopers aren’t enough, TBI may be able to pull you over soon, too. But only in “emergencies.” [WTVF]

We Watch State of the Metro So You Don’t Have To
Though we sort of slept through the State of the Metro address this morning, we did manage to catch it on TV. At any rate, the reactions around town have been mixed, but the overall consensus is the same: We’re short on cash. Mayor Dean announced this morning that all departments would be operating with significantly smaller budgets this year with the exception of Metro Public Schools, which will receive about half of the $1.58 billion budget. Why? To put it simply, things aren’t going real well. The school system as a whole is facing the possibility of a state intervention within the next two years if they continue to fall short of meeting No Child Left Behind requirements–something that Dean says is “not something we want to happen.” No kidding.

Photo Of The Day: In Your Face
Flickr user edwin.donnelly snagged an impressive shot of this little guy, an African Crowned Crane, at the Nashville Zoo yesterday. Though we kind of think it’s begging for an LOLcat caption, we love it the way it is: shocked, curious, and exotic.
Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry- We’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest†if you’re feeling lazy.

Bright & Early: Water Under The Bridge Edition
Police out in Franklin held meetings yesterday to talk to parents about the big gang problem we apparently have. There’s no reason to panic, they say, but they’re trying to cut it off early. With summer vacation just around the corner, your kids may be looking at a lot of downtime. Trying to find for a place for them to stay out of trouble? Check out Rocketown’s summer programs. We at Nashvillest have a special place in our hearts for the folks at Rocketown. If you’ve got some free time on your hands, you might even think about helping out.
- That’s So Punny. News Channel 4 says, “Public Works to Chop Grass Cutters,” pun totally intended. They’re so clever. No, really- we love you, Channel 4. We wouldn’t trade you for the world.
- Bring It On. Watch the final round of auditions for next season’s Titans cheerleaders at City Hall tonight. Nashville’s very own Kiefer Sutherland look-alike, Phil Vassar, will be among the panel of celebrity judges (seriously, the resemblance is uncanny). Tickets are only 10 bucks and doors at 5:30, auditions at 6:30. We’re letting you know early since we know you’ll need time to clear out your calendars.
- Bits And Pieces. Coach topples little league softball umpire, team of 10-year olds kicked out of league … Mayor faces tough questions about Metro Public School dropout rates on the eve of State of the Metro address … Grab a Free Haagen-Dazs cone (just the new vanilla honey-bee flavor) after work today from 4pm to 8pm, but you’ll have to head all the way out to Opry Mills.

Are We “Young, Hip” Enough To Go Country?
CMT’s Gone Country is filming their season finale at the Wildhorse Saloon tomorrow, and they want you there for the taping – but only if you’re a “hip, musically driven individual to really rock it out on the front lines.” Where do we send our headshots?
In all seriousness, it could be fun for the right “young, hip crowd… people with energy…” Sorry, we just couldn’t resist one last crack (we’re just jealous). If you self-identify with this description, arrive at the Wildhorse at 6:30pm tomorrow, May 14, for placement along the red carpet and in the “pit.” Red carpet reception begins filming at 7 and the concert is at 8:30. For your troubles, you will get to witness the following laundry list of celebrities as they attempt to debut an original country song:
Sebastian Bach (frontman of Skid Row), Mikalah Gordon (American Idol), Jermaine Jackson (Jackson 5), Chris Kirkpatrick (N’SYNC), Lorenzo Lamas (Renegade & Falcon Crest) and Sean Young (Blade Runner & Ace Ventura Pet Detective).
Chris from N’SYNC? We won’t pretend our inner 12 year old isn’t leaping at this opportunity. Maybe we’ll see you there after all.
