When we first heard that Nashville was one of this year’s Earth Hour flagship cities back in December, March 28 seemed pretty far away. Surprise surprise, it’s here, and Nashville will be putting on quite a show… or lack thereof. For one hour tomorrow night, lights will go out at more than 250 key buildings throughout the city. Universities and schools, government buildings and Nashville landmarks, office complexes and neon signs downtown will all be participating, and thousands of Nashville residents will turn off the lights in their own homes as well. But we don’t expect you to sit in the dark in your house for an hour! Earth Hour is a great opportunity to take part in the community. So switch off your lights from 8:30-9:30pm tomorrow and head downtown for some Earth Hour fun! Here’s an extensive list of Earth Hour events, and our picks below:
- Official Nashville Earth Hour Event. Count down with the mayor in the Sommet Center Plaza. There will be a live performance by Jo Dee Messina, and we’ll watch the city go dark at 8:30pm. The event begins at 7:30pm and is free!
- Team Green Flashlight Hike. Begins at 8pm at LP Field (Woodland St. side). Free & open to the public!
- Earth Hour Viewing Party at Drinkhaus. Gather at Drinkhaus, one of our favorite new coffee shops, and sip-n-snack your way through Earth Hour! Watch the city go dark from Germantown. Free!
- Bongo Java Movie Night/Birthday/Earth Hour Celebration. We love how clever this is. Watch 16 Candles for Bongo Java’s 16th birthday by candlelight for Earth Hour! And it’s… free!
- Star Party at the Adventure Science Center. Gather in front of the Adventure Science Center to watch downtown go dark and do some serious stargazing. Free & open to the public.
- Belmont Unplugged. Celebrate with free live music & food at Belmont University from 7:30pm-9:30pm. Belmont will also be accepting electronics for recycling.
