- PSA: Tomorrow is the last day to register to vote in the city election run-offs on September 12.
- We’ve reached a weird time in the mayoral run-off election, with Mayor David Briley saying at a gathering in East Nashville that he hasĀ “to call bullshit” on opponent John Cooper’s reasoning for running and his record. Cooper declined to respond directly to the comments, focusing on other issues.
- Neither John Ray Clemmons or Carol Swain, both out of the running for mayor after the August 1 elections, have chosen who they might endorse between Briley and Cooper. All four candidates traded barbs during multiple debates.
- Escaped inmate Curtis Watson was captured Sunday in West Tennessee, four days after a “Blue Alert” was issued to mobile phones across the mid-state. The TBI says Watson killed a prison official during his escape from the West Tennessee State Penitentiary.
- Police say a man broke into a woman’s South Nashville home thinking it was his Airbnb before falling asleep on the couch where he was found the next morning. His Airbnb was a few houses down, but is now facing charges for the break-in.
- Citizen Incubator Kitchens will open Citizens Market later this summer to showcase the entrepreneurs that have made its West Nashville operator popular with up-and-coming culinary talent.
- Fashion chain H&M will not be opening a store at the Fifth + Broadway development after all, the company announced Thursday. Two other “food and entertainment” retailers will take up the allocated space in the development, which is 75 percent leased for its planned opening next Spring.
- Dock-less scooter company Bird has launched a downtown ad campaign to educate riders on proper safety as the Metro Council is set to soon vote on whether they and other operators will be allowed to continue in the city. The Council has previously favored allowing more time for the operators to correct issues.
- East Nashville restaurant Las Maracas will pay $83,000 in employee back wages and fines for labor standards violations, including paying a flat weekly rate for waiters regardless of the hours they tracked and having a15 year-old work during school hours.
- The Tennessee Titans (1-0) beat the Philadelphia Eagles (0-1) 27-10 on the road in their pre-season opener, heralding the start of football season and a return of normalcy to the city’s sports bars. The Titans host the New England Patriots in their second preseason game this Saturday.
