- PSA: Tomorrow (July 3) is the final day to register to vote in Tennessee for the August primaries. It only take a few moments to register or update your registration.
- More than 1,000 people marched in the Belmont neighborhood in support of the nationwide “Families Belong Together” protests against family separation and current immigration policies. CoreCivic, which runs several of the detention facilities, is headquartered in Nashville.
- The Metro Arts Commission says that many of Nashville’s sculptures are in poor condition and badly in need of repairs, some totalling up to more than $100,000. Others are “orphaned” from the budget and need special attention to assess their condition.
- Jonathan Hall defeated Judy Cummings by about 200 votes to win Thursday’s special election for District 1. Hall is the son of late WSMV weatherman Bill Hall.

- If you are a fan of hot chicken (and likely even hotter weather), the 12th annual Music City Hot Chicken Festival will be in East Park this Wednesday, July 4. The event is free and open to the public, but lines are often long for food.
- A little rain doesn’t stop a
pedal tavernpedal-powered bar in downtown Nashville. - Employees at a West Nashville pet store have plead guilty to animal cruelty charges following a sting organized by PETA, and all will serve community service and probation as part of the settlement. The pet store chain is suing the original activist, accusing her of “manufacturing evidence” against the store.

- A former Vanderbilt basketball player and now a high school coach at Christ Presbyterian Academy hit a record breaking over-the-back shot at 84 feet from the basket, two more feet than the Harlem Globetrotters.
