- You probably heard about Friday’s accident on Briley Parkway involving an overturned truck and a bunch of cows walking around loose. Well, two apparently died in the accident that shut down the parkway for hours.
- The Nashville Sports Commission, the group that oversees the city’s sports venues, has approved the plan to build a soccer stadium at the Tennessee Fairgrounds clearing the way for the Metro Council to vote on it. The mayor’s office would like them to hurry up already.
- The Vanderbilt football team (3-4) suffered its fourth loss in a row, this time on the road Saturday to Ole Miss (3-3) 35 to 57. The Commodores mercifully have a bye week next week before traveling to South Carolina the following Saturday.
- After a win Thursday over the Dallas Stars (2-3), the Nashville Predators (2-2-1) dropped an overtime road matchup 1-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks (4-1-1). The Preds host the Colorado Avalanche (4-2-0) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bridgestone Arena.
- Nissan Stadium was briefly placed on lock-down after shots were fired outside in the parking lot during Tennessee State University’s homecoming festivities.
- TSU also joined the mayor on Friday in celebrating the extension of the free Route 60 “Blue” Music City Circuit bus to the campus from downtown and the Gulch. Service began October 1.
- City officials say there is a shortage of shelter space for homeless fathers and their children, with WKRN interviewing one man who sleeps in his car with a two-year old.
- Police are warning of a scam where two people will begin an mock altercation in a parking lot only to rob bystanders who try to intervene.
- The state’s standardized testing program called “TNReady” has had yet another blunder this year after tests were incorrectly scored and misattributed to teacher’s classrooms. Last year’s tests were canceled after delays and software errors.
- Predators players Nick Bonino and Yannick Weber surprised a group of youth street hockey players on Wednesday afternoon in Nolensville.
- We aren’t sure why you would want to, but the Nashville Scene put together a transcript of Kid Rock’s comments on a bunch of stuff that was on his mind.
- And finally in “Dolly Parton is a National Treasure” news, the country music legend stopped by Monroe Carrel Jr. Children’s Hospital to meet with kids and donate a million bucks. We ❤️ you, Dolly!
