- Mayor Briley was delivering a concession speech within about 15 minutes of the polls closing Thursday, having lost to mayor-elect John Cooper in a landslide that was the first time an incumbent mayor has lost re-election in Metro’s history. About 10 percent fewer voters participated in this election.
- Rounding out the council-at large seats to join Bob Mendes were Sharon Hurt, Burkley Allen, Steve Glover, and Zulfat Suara, with Suara in particular making history.
- In general, it was not a good night to be an incumbent in Nashville, with several seeing their time on the legislative body cut short.
- John Cooper’s election means a transition team will be evaluating several key positions in city government, with a round of departures expected on or around the swearing in date.
- As of Sunday night, folks in Bellevue are still looking for an escaped sheep dubbed “Belle-Ewe”. There’s a Facebook group to report sightings.
- Cooper also raised some eyebrows in an interview with Fox 17 where vowed to end the city’s claim as a “sanctuary city” for undocumented immigrants.

- The Community Oversight Board, the police chief and now outgoing mayor David Briley will meet this week to discuss the trouble the board has had with getting records related to cases of alleged police misconduct. For their part, the police department doesn’t agree with the characterizations of their cooperation.
- Voting rights advocates got some good news when a federal judge struck down Tennessee’s new restrictive voter registration law that imposed stiff penalties for any errors detected by groups looking to increase voter registration. The state will likely appeal the ruling.
- Metro Nashville Police have hung a banner in hopes of finding new leads on an incident last year where somebody threw a large rock from an overpass, killing a commuter.
- Nashville Public Library has joined in a nationwide petition to demand a publisher not move forward with plans to restrict access to e-book borrowing for new releases as a way to increase demand on book sales.
- Turns out the Indianapolis Colts (1-1) didn’t need Luck to beat the Tennessee Titans (1-1) 19-17 in Nashville Sunday. It will be a short week for the team, as they head to face Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2) on the road this Thursday.
- In what was a bad omen, a piece of pyrotechnic equipment caught fire right before the National Anthem.
- The Titans also retired the numbers of Eddie George (27) and the late Steve McNair (9), and in a bit of coincidence, a “9” was spotted in the clouds above the stadium.
- Today is the first preseason game of the season for the Nashville Predators as they host a double-header at 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. against the Florida Panthers.
- Watered-down coffee was the reason a man gave for throwing a cup of hot coffee back at a Nashville McDonald’s employee, a move that landed him in jail.
