- A columnist for The Tennessean filed a bizarre piece claiming that Memphis has better barbecue than Nashville, which drew a response from a local television station. We now refer to the words of the owner of Peg Leg Porker on why this is an idiotic thing to claim.
- We aren’t sure what is in the air that is making our local news outlets pick on Memphis, but the most outlandish story this week is about the possibility of Graceland leaving the Bluff City for Music City. Spoiler: not going to happen.
- An MNPD officer alleges that she was the victim retaliation for support of the community oversight board as well as for accusing a former officer of rape, among other misconduct by the department. The Metro Council is set to vote on a $150,000 settlement.
- If you did not get enough of the drama around the former Metro Nashville Public Schools director’s departure from the system, he now has a Twitter account for you to follow along with.
- The Nashville Predators evened their first round series at 1-1 with the Dallas Stars with a 2-1 overtime win Saturday night at home. The series shifts to Dallas tonight.
- Public address announcer Paul McCann probably wishes he could have a do-over for about two seconds of Wednesday night’s Predators game, but the rest of us were booing too loudly to hear what he said the first time.
- Mayor David Briley holds a substantial fundraising lead in his re-election campaign, raising $189,348 and with $416,209 cash on hand with about three and a half months remaining before the August 1 elections. Carol Swain raised $118,158 from downtown bar owners and major conservative donors, while John Ray Clemmons lagged behind at $40,935.
- If you missed the Chihuly exhibit at Cheekwood in 2010 with its amazing glass sculptures, it will be returning next year for your Instagramming pleasure.
- PSA, Part II: Tomorrow is Dining Out for Life, an annual event in its 17th year where 60 local restaurants will donate a portion of their profits to HIV/AIDS service organizations. ?
