- Move over Convention Center Coyote, the Gulch Chicken captured our “how the hell did it get there” imaginations Thursday, running around 12 Avenue. The hen was later lured to be caught by animal control with an oatmeal cream pie cookie. ?
- At-large Council Member John Cooper will not be running for mayor later this year, leaving the current field at incumbent David Briley and Tennessee Rep. John Ray Clemmons unless others join in. The special election last year drew 13 candidates, with Briley avoiding a runoff at nearly 55 percent of the vote.
- The Tennessee General Assembly has proposed a law that would curtail the ability of Metro Nashville to regulate its dockless scooter infection. It joins a ever-growing list of things the state has preventing the city of Nashville from handling on its own. ?
- A unit within the Davidson County District Attorney’s office will review a 1998 murder conviction for a potential new trial. It is the first the group has recommended for review since recent criticism surfaced about its effectiveness.
- Flooding may cause delays or cancellations of the Music City Star train from Lebanon to Downtown officials warned Sunday evening. Passengers are encouraged to line up other transportation for their Monday commute as a precaution.
- The mayor’s office lent its support to a $500,000 upgrade to the city’s tornado siren system after withering criticism about its effectiveness and malfunctions last Wednesday. The upgrade would allow emergency officials the ability to target specific zones of the county for when to activate the sirens.

- A former deputy court clerk has filed a sexual assault lawsuit against Metro Circuit Court Clerk Richard Rooker, alleging a 13 year pattern of unwanted advances. Rooker denies the allegations.
- Memorials continue to come in for a local band member and Belmont graduate killed in an attempted robbery last Thursday. Kyle Yortlets was 24.
- WSMV reports that days prior to William Swann being named the interim Fire Chief, a list of qualified candidates was abolished, a move a few perennial administration critics in the Metro Council are calling cronyism. Swann, who lacked a bachelor’s degreet at the time, would later drop the interim title.
- Students at Vanderbilt University are pushing the administration towards endorsing a 100 percent renewable energy plan as part of a larger effort at campuses across the country. ☀️
- The Nashville Predators (33-20-5) picked up an overtime win over the Dallas Stars (28-22-5) Thursday 3-2 and then dropped both of their weekend games against the St. Louis Blues (27-22-5), the first a 3-2 loss on Saturday in St. Louis and the other 5-4 in overtime at home. The team returns to action Tuesday night against the Detroit Red Wings (21-28-7).
- Vanderbilt University mourned the loss of former athletic director David Williams Friday, the same day the organization was scheduled celebrate his retirement. Williams was 71.
- East Nashville’s Edgefield Sports Bar & Grill will close this summer, with its owner closing out a 45-year career of running bars. The building itself will not be torn down and a new tenant would take over the existing bar space.
