- Metro Council member Sharon Hurt has proposed renaming the Nashville International Airport after television personality Oprah Winfrey, who was not born here nor lives here now, but did get her start in television for WTVF in the 1980s. Hurt’s proposal has been met with silence from the Airport Authority. ✈️
- Mary Louise Watson, the mother of one of the first children to integrate Nashville’s schools in 1957 has died. She was 99.
- A group of parents protested at Tuesday’s Metro Nashville Public School Board meeting, demanding the resignation of Director of Schools Dr. Shawn Joseph. His contract is up for renewal next June and he says that he intends to stay on the job.
- The mayor’s office announced that it will not be pursuing further expansion of the “ShotSpotter” technology that alerts police when it hears gun shots near its monitoring station, citing cost concerns. The system had been deployed on a trial basis near James Cayce Homes in East Nashville.
- It looks like streaming service Apple Music will open an office in the Wedgewood Houston area according to the Nashville Post, bringing an estimated 30 jobs to the area.
- Police arrested a man who allegedly set fire to a trash can inside the city courthouse Tuesday night. ?
- The federal grant that was supposed to sponsor a study of the Dickerson corridor was not awarded this year, but the mayor’s office says they will try again next year.
- The family of a man killed by a piece of concrete thrown from a downtown overpass has increased the reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction to $10,000. Police have not yet identified any suspects in the case.
- Seriously, beware of scammers y’all — this time from folks claiming to be from Nashville Electric Service.
- WSMV weirdly says the electric scooters around town could be used to commit crimes, but police say there is no evidence of that happening in Nashville. Okay then.
- The Nashville office of Planned Parenthood has suspended offering its abortion services, not really explaining why other than saying they are focused on “quality improvement” among their other women’s health offerings.
- Uh, we don’t think they’re going to get that Bird scooter back easily.
- The Nashville Predators (20-10-1) defeated the struggling Ottawa Senators (13-15-4) Tuesday night 3-1. The team faces the Vancouver Canucks (14-16-3) tonight at Bridgestone Arena.
- The Nashville Sounds will play an exhibition game against their parent club, the Texas Rangers, next spring. ⚾️
- The summer play series “Shakespeare in the Park” will be leaving Centennial Park next year after a three-decade run, citing the need for maintenance and upgrades to the facilities. It will move to the OneCity development in a slightly smaller venue.
