- PSA: Both Bonnaroo (held out in Manchester, TN) and CMA Fest (downtown Nashville) run Thursday through Sunday. Try to be nice to the tourists, y’all.
- A man was arrested Thursday night with an AR-15 and two magazines of ammunition after allegedly breaking into a car to steal the weapons and walking down Broadway. He was arrested without incident.
- Metro Public Works began rounding up about 100 illegally parked Bird scooters around town after seeking a court action against the company. The city says it will charge the company an impound fee of $50 per day per scooter.
- A man accused of killing a sheriff’s deputy in Dickson County was arrested by a State Trooper Friday morning in a wooded area after a 48-hour manhunt and was later lead to jail in Nashville wearing the handcuffs of the fallen officer. The state has announced it will seek the death penalty for both him and a female accomplice.
- The family of Tabitha Tuders, who went missing from her East Nashville bus stop at age 13 in 2003, remain hopeful that she will be found. The family was featured on the Investigation Discovery Network show “Disappeared” recently.
- An online petition is asking that Hadley Park near Tennessee State University be renamed for Malcom X, a move that would likely run into complications because of a rule that Metro Parks cannot be renamed. An exception was made to “correct” the name of Frederick Douglass Park from “Fred Douglas Park,” which was likely the product of some jerk not writing it down correctly.
- The Worker’s Dignity Project and Metro Arts Commission have collaborated on a mural in South Nashville depicting three generations of Latina women as trailblazers for migrant workers.
- The Nashville Scene takes a deeper look at the controversy surround attempting to name a coffee shop “The Sit In” in case anyone is still trying to figure out what that was a bad idea.
- If you take I-440 to and from work, your commute could get a little dicey next year as they completely resurface it (the nice smooth lanes right now are simply a patch job). At least it means less pot holes?
- We learned from a Tennessean story that the owner of Tootsie’s paid $10,000 (not a typo) for the property in the early 90s, a figure that was said to be too high at the time because downtown was deteriorating. Pretty sure he’s laughing all the way to the bank these days, but do check out the photo gallery.
- Well, here comes another reality show about Nashville, this time about our booming bachelorette party industry. We’re secretly hoping they do it in the style of COPS.
- Lin Folk, a longtime WPLN contributor and World War II veteran, has died shortly after being inducted into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame (which we just learned was a thing). She was 101.
- PSC Metals, that scrap yard near the football stadium, is again in the news after a public records request yielded that there have been discussions about moving the “eyesore” from the bank of the Cumberland. The mayor’s office has said there is nothing new to share on that front.
- You may be shocked to learn that you can pay $16 for a cocktail in Nashville, which is about $8 too expensive for anything worth drinking. The old adage goes that somebody must be paying it for them to price it like that.
