- The chief of police in Murfreesboro has abruptly resigned his position Thursday, giving little hint as to why in his resignation letter. Meanwhile, the city is bracing for a white supremacy rally next weekend.
- A group of protestors marched in silence between Cumberland Park and City Hall in support of a renewed push to pass the DREAM Act, a measure that grants immigration status to children brought to the United States.
- The Tennessee Titans (4-3) picked up another win over the hapless Cleveland Browns (0-7) 12-9 in an overtime game that was nothing but field goals. Not kidding. They have a bye week before returning home to face the Baltimore Ravens on November 5.
- The Nashville Predators (4-3-1) completed the season sweep of the Philadelphia Flyers (5-3) with a 1-0 shutout on Thursday, but lost to the New York Rangers (2-5-2) 2-4 on the second half of their road trip. They return tomorrow night to Bridgestone Arena to face the Calgary Flames (4-4).
- Some stores at One Bellevue Place, the shopping center that replaced the Bellevue Center Mall, are facing delays in opening for the holiday season because of labor shortages.
- Rep Jim Cooper (TN-5) sat down with WSMV to discuss legislation aimed at curbing the opioid epidemic gripping communities in Tennessee.
- Police say a recent robbery and shooting of an unarmed security guard at a Rite-Aid on West End may have been planned by a (now assuredly former) employee. The two suspects are in custody.
- People keep stealing packages off of front porches, and now the police are asking for help on social media.
- A tanker truck explosion Saturday morning on I-40 shut down the interestate for several hours, but there were no serious injuries.
- Shoppers of the Eastland Kroger in East Nashville may soon see the store expand into the neighboring space.
- The Foo Fighters were supposed to be at Bridgestone tonight before the band canceled performances in Lexington, Memphis and Nashville because of a family emergency. The rescheduled performance has not been announced (it’s a busy arena).
- The USA TODAY NETWORK – Tennessee Edition (seriously, this Gannett corporate branding is terrible) announced that it will be hosting at least nine forums and debates across the state for the governor’s race.
