Happy Hour: Bluepocalypse Now
- The Tennessean investigates these strange creatures we call Kentuckians and explains that they eat too much junk food and drink too much booze which can land them in the hospital during this weekend’s SEC tournament. Nutritionists would also like to remind these creatures that they should stick to a 2,000-calorie diet, even if they are excited. Kentucky, we are actually feeling a little offended FOR you. [Tennessean]
- The Tennessean has also aptly named the flood of Kentucky fans “Bluepocalypse,” and we actually like that one. [Tennessean]
- This weekend is a big one for aspiring reality show contestants as there are auditions for both The Biggest Loser and So You Think You Can Dance happening. [WSMV & Tennessean]
- Tennessee lawmakers would really love to bring back the Crack Tax, which targets drug dealers by placing a tax on illegal drugs. No drug dealer in his or her mind will ever voluntarily pay this, of course, but it does force them to pay up when they get caught in addition to whatever sentence they receive for the distribution or possession charges they’ve already racked up. [Tennessean]
- Rest easy: The Preds Chairman has agreed to keep our boys in town at least through 2012. [WPLN]

Nashville Sounds Introduce Thirsty-ish Throwback Thursdays

After lamenting the absence of Thirsty Thursdays last season at the newly-renovated Greer Stadium, we’re excited to deliver news of a new Nashville Sounds season promo day that’s so close to the Thirsty Thursdays of olde, we can taste it. The Nashville Sounds will introduce “Throwback Thursdays” this year, offering hot dogs, pretzels, nachos, sodas and, yes, beer (!) for just $2 each. While it’s a 100% markup on the $1 beers we used to guzzle on Thirsty Thursdays, we really can’t complain about this.
Individual tickets for this season go on sale this Tuesday, March 16. The Sounds are also offering new ticket flex packs of undated vouchers, so you can use your tickets whenever and with whomever you please. Like on Throwback Thursdays.

Bright & Early: Keep The Lights On Edition
Good morning, Nashville. By the looks of our Twitter feed, many of you guys started out the morning in the dark. According to NES lightning struck the Edmonson Pike substation a little after 6am, causing a widespread power outage that lasted for about an hour and affected more than 10,000 customers. Storms are expected to continue throughout the morning, but are mostly on their way out. Hopefully NES can manage to keep the lights on for us, especially since they’re giving us fancy new meters that double our electric bills.
- Expensive grills. The city may soon be shelling out $95,000 to settle a lawsuit involving a gold grill (which reminds us of this other one). A man was ordered to remove the grill while he was being booked at the local jail, and when he declared that the teeth were cemented in place, the cop reached into his mouth and yanked them out. And then the man was given some Tylenol in lieu of some much-needed dental care.
- Can you hear us now? On the heels of the budget cut announcements for Metro Schools, over 100 custodians turned out to the School Board meeting last night to protest Metro’s plan to outsource custodial work to another company. Metro plans to cut 665 jobs, most of which are custodial or maintenance-related.
- Bits & pieces. Music City Center construction, in all its disruptive glory, will at least create about 3,000 jobs … Metro Councilman Jamie Hollin has his own theory about why Metro3 decided not to broadcast last night’s board meeting … Consider this your second warning to stay clear of downtown while the 180,000 SEC fans run around like crazy people … Both the Hillsboro Rd. and Murphy Rd. exit ramps will be closed on I-440E this weekend.
