Because We Really, Really Need More Burritos: Chipotle & Chuy’s Updates

What do Chipotle and Chuy’s have in common? Without getting into a debate about burritos and Tex-Mex and what really is or isn’t Mexican food, they share a common bond of some very, very enthusiastic fans. And those very, very enthusiastic fans should be excited to hear these updates.

Chipotle has a nice new shiny building permit at 2825 West End Ave, which an astute reader pointed out is the current home of Bittner’s Formal Wear. We went ahead and gave Bittner’s a call, and it is indeed true – They are moving across the parking lot, and Chipotle is taking their place. We hope this means that we could see Chipotle opening their doors before the end of the year, but we’ll have to wait for the official word.

Chuy’s will start renovating Cool Springs’ old Beethoven’s Grille in July, and they plan to be open by a vague “Fall.” Which is sooner than “Winter,” so I guess we’ll take it. If you can’t wait until then, Chuy’s is a sponsor of the 2009 Carnton Plantation Summer Concert Series, and while there won’t be any creamy jalapeño at the plantation, there will be plenty of Chuy’s margaritas to go around.

    Scooped! Well done.

    I suck.

Hell, I'm practically on vacation anyway.

We must both be pretty lazy. The Nashville Post posted the permit thing on June 5 and I just realized yesterday that some others might actually be interested in knowing.

Should I be the troll who starts the “Chipotle tastes just like Qdoba and they both make me say meh” flame war?

Go eat Chile Burrito and get on with it.

Zomg I can't wait for Chuy's. I will treat Nashvillest editors to lunch opening weekend. The sauce! Oh the sauce. Sooooo tasty!!

I hate Qdoba but love Chipotle. Go figure. Baja and Chile Burrito still top it, but they're all different.

Chipotle told us a few months back that they were planning to be in Nashville in October.

Except that Chipotle is Mcdonald's brand fast food burritos and Chuy's is the real deal Tex-Mex from Austin.

No offense here, but there's really no comparison in quality. Chuy's is also a full-service restaurant with everything, not just giant burritos. Sorry, that was my single elitist moment for the month.

I don't think anyone was comparing Chipotle and Chuy's food, at all. They're just two restaurants with cultish followings that are both coming to town this fall.
