Locals You Should Love: Tonight At 12th & Porter
Playing tonight at 12th & Porter is a great local lineup that we can’t wait for. Butterfly Boucher, Disappointed By Candy and The Good Wolves will be hitting the stage at 9pm tonight. It’s shows like these that make us realize what gems we have in the Nashville music scene.
Openers The Good Wolves are newcomers only in band name – the five members have played in a multitude of different bands, but this is their first show together under the new moniker. Playing second, Disappointed By Candy add their chill electronic vibe to the mix, and one of our favorite local Australian transplants (no, not Keith Urban) Butterfly Boucher will close out the night with her infectious pop and poignant songwriting. $8 at the door.

Happy Hour: Happy HIV Testing Day
- Today was National HIV Testing Day, and 27 local African American churches are using the excuse to reach out to their congregation by offering HIV tests on site during their Sunday services this weekend (June 29). [WTVF]
- Metro is beefing up their Domestic Violence Division of the police department by phasing in 14 new detectives over the next few months. [City Paper]
- The folks in Goodlettsville are doing what they can to make sure Mansker Station and the Bowen Campbell Home historic sites can stay open next year. But as Channel 4 astutely points out, “Mansker’s Station only has a few full-time workers anyway volunteers do a lot of the work.” [WSMV]
- The TBI started collecting information today for the new and improved sex offender registry, which is set to launch on January 1st of next year. You’ll even be able to sign up to be notified by email if a sex offender moves to your area. [WTVF]

Sudekum Planetarium Grand Opening: Moon Walk, Anyone?
This weekend is the grand opening of the new Sudekum Planetarium at the Adventure Science Center, and it’s definitely something to brag about. The new Chiron star projector is the fourth of its kind, and the first outside of Japan. It projects 6.5 million stars (while the old planetarium’s projector could produce 2,500). We call that improvement.Â
Grand opening weekend will see extended hours for the museum, with a schedule packed full of robot races, astro bounces, puppet shows, balloons, live music and of course, the inaugural planetarium show, STARS.Â
The other highlight of opening weekend is the new Space Chase exhibit wing. This is the new 15,000 square foot addition that allows visitors to moonwalk, among other things. Only the first floor is complete, with the second floor scheduled to open in 2009.Â
Unfortunately, with the new additions to the museum, admission prices are being raised for the first time since 2005. Effective tomorrow, admission will be $11 for adults and $9 for kids, and an extra $4 for planetarium shows. Family memberships are the way to get a great deal if you plan to visit more than once.

Photo Of The Day: June 27, 2008
We see tons of great pictures from the Nashville Zoo come through our pool, but this is the first time we’ve seen this little guy captured by craptasticphotog. He doesn’t seem real thrilled about having his picture taken, but we love the detail and sharp contrast of the bright green color against the tree.
Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry- We’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest†if you’re feeling lazy.

Bright & Early: Riverfront Roller Coaster Edition
Good morning, Nashville. We all sort of scratched our heads when Metro decided to install this weird-looking piece of public art down by the riverfront last year. As it were, the Ghost Ballet for the East Bank Machineworks sculpture was one of the 45 pieces of public art recognized as outstanding by the group Americans for the Arts. We’re guessing it still won’t stop the tourists from pausing and asking us, “Why is there a roller coaster by the river?” Sigh.
- Horsing around. Two new horses have been added to the Hendersonville Police Department. Regarding his new horse, Officer Nathan West tells WTVF, “He’s my partner. He is. He’s been taking care of me and I’ve been taking care of him.” Too much cute for this early in the morning, right?
- Ballin’. Congrats to Shan Foster, Vanderbilt forward, who’s been drafted by the Dallas Mavericks as their 51st pick for the NBA draft.
- Bits & pieces. More talk about Wilson County Bible Park … A creepy guy is broke into an apartment on Woodlawn Drive and fondled some girl in her sleep, and police have a sketch … Oil prices shoot past $142 per gallon … Cool Springs may get 600 new jobs.
