Free Ice Cream Today At Dippin’ Dots
We’re not sure how we missed this, but it’s free ice cream day at Dippin’ Dots! They’ll be giving away free cups of their weird balls of ice cream TODAY from 4pm until closing! The downside is that they’re only doing it at their franchised stores (no stadiums, museums, or other locations). Head over to their website to find the store nearest you.

Happy Hour: Turn Off Your Thermostats
- Expect your electric bill to go up again as of July 1, courtesy of the Tennessee Valley Authority. Something about rising fuel costs and “the lingering effects of the drought.” [WSMV]
- Rep. Rob Briley (D-Nashville) finished up his stint with the Tennessee House of Representatives today, taking a few final stabs at the press (read: bloggers) who had a lot to say about his high-speed chase/meltdown last year. [City Paper]

- Predictably, Sen. Bob Corker has asked the Tennessee Republicans to take down the now-famous Michelle Obama video from Youtube. Unfortunately well over 653,000 people have already viewed the original video, and it’s been mixed and remixed by several dozen Youtubers, and it was looped on national television for almost an entire day. But hey, it’s a nice gesture. [WSMV]

More Than Movies In The Park This Year
If you’ve lived in Nashville for at least a year, you’re familiar with the Nashville Scene’s annual Movies In The Park series. Family-friendly films, trans-fat laden ballpark concessions and the lingering scent of bug spray… Yet somehow, Movies In The Park is simultaneously a great first date, a place to hang out with friends and something to entertain your kids for approximately two hours each week during those seemingly eternal summer months. Biggest perk? It’s free. And this year there’s more entertainment in parks around Davidson and Williamson counties than we know what to do with. We’ll give you the scoop, you can pick and choose. With enough strategy, we think you could keep the kids entertained every night of the week. Or go on a lot of dates.
NASHVILLE SCENE’S MOVIES IN THE PARK
- 5-28, sunset: Jurassic Park; Centennial Park
- 6-4, sunset: The Birds; Centennial Park
- 6-11, sunset: The Goonies; Centennial Park
- 6-18, sunset: Dirty Dancing; Centennial Park
- 6-25, sunset: Shrek 3; Centennial Park

Only In Nashville: Global Warming Lives Here
One of the great pleasures we have as Nashvillians is sharing our city with a lot of really famous people like Jessica Simpson, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman; and of course, too many country stars to name. If you’ve lived here long enough, you may even have your own story about one of them (yes, that’s your cue to leave them in the comments.)
But we often forget about Al Gore, of Nobel Prize and vice presidential fame. That’s why we had to laugh when we were digging through Rotten Neighbor and found his Belle Meade mansion flagged red for “rotten” by a user who had this to say:
This is one of the many homes of Al “Charlatan†Gore. Not the largest house in Nashville, but according to public records, the top consumer of electricity [of] any other residence. Perhaps it’s the more than 12,000 square feet of living space for he and Tipper. Perhaps it’s the heated outdoor pool. Or perhaps it’s the ice maker that works overtime to make all the little cubes that he plans to take with him to hell for architecting the greatest lie of all times, man-induced global warming.
At the rate things are going, John Rich may soon be joining Gore on the map if he follows through with the plans for the “Villa Rich” monstrosity mansion on Love Circle. Though the building group has yanked the renderings “at the request of the client,” we still managed to find this drawing of what the home is supposed to look like that completely explains why the neighbors are upset.

Photo of the Day: Tennessee State Prison
The abandoned Tennessee State Penitentiary is probably the creepiest place in Nashville, but it makes for some impressive photos like this one from crashmattb. We couldn’t have picked a better place to shoot on a stormy day.
Note: We’ve come across some great photos in the pool that we can’t use due to privacy settings that keep us from downloading or linking them. If you’d like to see your photos on Nashvillest, check your account settings under “Privacy & Permissions” and make sure you’ve set it to allow anyone or any Flickr user to download your photos. Keep up the great work!
Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry- We’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest†if you’re feeling lazy.

Get A Taste Of Green Hills Today
Nashvillest welcomes any excuse to dine out guilt-free, and A Taste Of Green Hills is providing the occasion today. The participating Green Hills restaurants will be donating a percentage from your meal to the Green Hills Rotary Foundation in support of several current projects. Dining options are limited with only 4 businesses participating, but they range from Noshville to F. Scott’s, so there’s something for everyone. We called each of the restaurants to clarify what “a percentage” meant. Here’s what we found -
“We don’t really have a percentage, it’s probably just what the general manager wants to donate.”
So caveat emptor, this is no Dining Out For Life. But may be worth giving it a shot.
Noshville Green Hills: 6:30am-4:00pm
Whole Foods Market Grill: 11am-9pm
Nero’s Grille: 11am-9pm
F. Scott’s: 5:30pm-10pm
Thanks to reader Jon Johnson for making sure we had the info for this event.

Bright & Early: Not So Fast Edition
Good morning, Nashville. The season of high school graduations is upon us and what an eventful season it is, though not as joyous as you might think. A man with a loaded gun was arrested outside of McGavock High School’s graduation over the weekend, a Glencliff High School senior prank ended in an arrest on Sunday night, and a Rutherford County teen was injured after falling off of the hood of a car during a graduation celebration yesterday. WKRN does bring us one happy story, though, where our new favorite Nashville blog That Is Messed Up helped one crime-stopping high school senior make it to his ceremony. Local media, 1; juvenile court system, 0.
- Comcastic. For the first time since it started in 2002, Bonnaroo will be televised nationwide on Fuse TV, which sucks for us because we don’t get that channel Nashville unless we have satellite or digital cable. We really just want to see Kanye.
- But who will trim our hedges? Good news for Metro employees: Those 200 layoffs we promised earlier are down to 80 and still dropping, which means we may not lose our grass cutters after all. Whew.
- Bits & Pieces. The Sounds are on a roll, taking down Memphis last night 7-3 … East Nashville Farmer’s Market opens tomorrow … More beautiful weather in store for Wednesday … Urban Residents Association worried about more crime downtown.

Breaking: County Clerk Discovers the Internet (Register Your Car Online)
If you live in Davidson County, then starting today you can skip the lines at the clerk’s office and renew your car registration online. For the procrastinators among us, you can even wait until 11:59pm the day before your tags expire and still drive around while your new stickers are in the mail, as long as you print out your receipt. We say it’s about time. [Tennessean]
