- There was a big surprise on Election Day, with Metro Council at-large member John Cooper garnering 35 percent of the vote to incubent mayor David Briley getting about 25 percent, forcing a September 12 run-off between the two. Carol Swain netted a bit under 22 percent while State Representative John Ray Clemmons got 16 percent.
- All 35 Council districts and five at-large seats were also on the ballot, with four of the 17 incumbents heading to the run-off and eight at-large seats up for grabs. Nine district council districts remain unsettled, while Bob Mendes captured one of the at-large seats outright.
- A hotel explosion along Murfreesboro Pike Sunday afternoon sent four people to the hospital, with investigators saying there were gasoline cans found inside the third floor extended-stay room. ?
- An East Nashville “cat cafe” says it will have to consider closing after its rent jumped 25 percent to about $5,000 per month.

- A man says he was “disrespected” by an Uber driver and threatened the man with a gun, who unexpectedly returned fire and sent him to the hospital with a gunshot wound. Whoops.
- Florida officials say that a man from Nashville was bitten by a shark Sunday afternoon. ?
- In other news, a teen suspect is dead after attempting to rob the Knock Out Wings restaurant in North Nashville marking the third such self-defense shooting in the last ten days.
- The original Cracker Barrel store store will no longer be restored at the Wilson County Fair site, instead being preserved for a future museum repurposed as recognition gifts to long-serving employees.
- The 34-story residential tower at Fifth + Broadway has reached a milestone where it has “topped out” at 415 feet, making it the tallest such tower in the state when it opens in early spring of next year. ?♀️
- Former Metro Nashville Public Schools director Pedro Garcia has died at his home in Iowa, having served in the role from 2001 to 2008. He was 72.
- A Nashville man has signed a contract with the Oakland Athletics after throwing pitches at between 90 and 96 mph at a Colorado Rockies game a few weeks ago.
