- A Nashville judge has found the city in contempt of court for continuing to send violation notices to a group of short-term rental operators while their case moves through the court. The permits in question were said to be issued erroneously by the city.
- Former circuit court judge Casey Moreland has told federal prosecutors that two city other judges joined him on illicit trips to Costa Rica and involved marijuana use and prostitutes. Both judges deny any wrongdoing.
- Meharry Medical College has unveiled an ambitious plan to overhaul the healthcare of folks who cannot to pay for it by having Metro General care for the least-sick patients. The city-run facility has been plagued in recent years with cost overruns and management trouble.
- The city is still trying to figure out how to handle the deluge of dockless scooters around Nashville with residents complaining about blocked sidewalks and reckless riders. The new rules will run through 2020, when the entire program will be reviewed.
- One of the new rules is that the company can be fined for misplaced scooters, though there is no word on how that will be enforced. Fines would be then assessed by the company against the offending user.
- A new high-end Nashville hotel will bring six different dining concepts inside the hotel, which we gotta say is a lot for one place. One of them is called “Dirty Little Secret.” ?
- Thanks to landing Amazon as a key tenant, the office towers at Nashville Yards are getting a lot larger. The city’s skyline is set for several more years of major changes.
- Soon-to-call Nashville home AllianceBernstein has issued a warning to the state legislature about a host of bills that the company considers anti-LGBT+ rights. The warning highlights how such moves can factor into business investment decisions statewide.
- Speaking of AllianceBernstein, their incentive plan sailed through the Metro Council Tuesday night, but the body did ask if the Convention Center Authority could pay for it out of its budget. No word on if that’s legal or possible.
- The Council also passed a non-binding resolution that would say that no incentives should be paid out at all if city employees do not receive the promised pay raise that was cut from the prior year’s budget. The resolution in not enforceable, but was seen as expression the conscience of the council.
- Nashville has been selected to host the end-of-year awards for NASCAR in December, which will draw racing fans to the downtown area. ?
- New Vision Academy, a charter school in South Nashville, has announced that it will close this Friday and expel more than 150 students in the process, forcing them to quickly find new schools. The school was recently ordered to reduce its student body by as many as 64 students to comply with fire codes, along with other investigations into its finances.
- The Nashville Predators (39-25-5) knocked off the Minnesota Wild (32-27-8) 5-4 for their second win over the team this week, again in the shootout and again on the slow-motion shot of forward Ryan Johansen. The Preds host the Carolina Hurricanes (36-23-7) this Saturday at home.
- The new ice rink in Bellevue being built by the city and the Predators will be called “Ford Ice Center Bellevue”, which means that the other one will be “Ford Ice Center Antioch.” That won’t get confusing at all.
- The coach of Nashville SC (of the USL) has been named the coach of Nashville SC (of the MLS) when that team takes to the field next year.
