- The Metro Council will for the first time consider legislation establishing a community oversight board for the city’s police force. Groups had been advocating for the board after the death of Jocques Clemmons in February following a traffic stop.
- Nashville’s Broadway entertainment district will get an upgrade to better protect pedestrians visiting the famed downtown establishments. A pilot program had set up fencing to expand the sidewalk right of way.
- It has been a rough month or so for the Nashville Fire Department after arson charges of a captain and a training safety incident, now culminating in the sudden retirement of its chief after his DUI arrest two weeks ago came to light.
- An East Nashville couple, owners of a 10-acre farm, has been chosen by Airbnb to promote the benefits of using the company to list properties on the popular site in the face of growing concern about short-term rentals’ effect on neighborhoods.
- The ongoing debate about the proposed MLS stadium at the fairgrounds has prompted a few changes from the mayor’s office in attempt to win over the holdouts. The council is expected to vote on the first reading this week.
- The Country Music Association, hosting its annual award show this week, has reversed course from demanding members of the media refrain from asking about recent events at a festival in Las Vegas or politics in general.
- An alleged gunman fired about a dozen shots into the air before surrendering to police inside the Veteran Affairs hospital Saturday night. He will not be charged for the incident.
- In a separate incident Sunday morning, a man was shot in the shoulder during an attempted robbery near the Vanderbilt campus. The suspect remains at large.
- Nearly 200 guns were turned in to police in exchange for $75 worth of gift cards in the sixth annual Gift Cards for Guns event.
- Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee has sold off part of its Nashville property to a hotel operator for a cool $6.25M in cash.
- The Tennessee Titans (5-3) picked up a crucial win over the Baltimore Ravens (4-5) 23-20 Sunday to keep their playoff goal alive. They host the Cincinnati Bengals (3-5) at noon next Sunday here in Nashville.
- Vanderbilt football (4-5) snapped a five-game losing streak by defeating Western Kentucky (5-4) at home Saturday. They next host the University of Kentucky (6-3) on Saturday.
- The Nashville Predators (7-5-2) picked up a pair of wins at the end of their California road trip over the Anaheim Ducks (6-6-2) on Friday and Los Angeles Kings (10-2-2) on Saturday. They next travel to Columbus, Ohio for a date with the Blue Jackets (9-4-1) on Tuesday night.
- The Predators also made their first major trade of the 2017-18 campaign in a three-way deal that sent prospects Vladislav Kamenev and Samuel Girard to Denver in exchange for Kyle Turris from Ottawa.
