• This weekend’s scheduled white supremacy rallies in Murfreesboro has the city and Middle Tennessee State University on high alert, canceling unrelated events and closing roads. Officials expect a number of counter protestors to be present as well.
• Two McGavock High School students say they were harassed by a man using ethnic slurs while they were walking down Lebanon Pike. Their father happened to be driving by and confronted the man, who was arrested after allegedly pulling a pocket knife on him.
• Hundreds of protestors lined Broadway on Wednesday to call on the United States to support Kurdish independence. Nashville is home to one of the country’s largest Kurdish populations.
• A pedal tavern bar (remember, the lawyers say we can’t use that trademark) company has been sued by a woman who says the operator was unable to hear her screams of pain from a foot being caught because of the loud music he was playing. She is seeking $750,000 in damages.
• Two West Nashville council members say that the proposed transit plan would not offer adequate service to their districts. The light rail line would end along Charlotte Avenue near Centennial Park.
• The National Labor Relations Board ruled in a case involving the Vanderbilt University faculty’s attempt to unionize, saying all but one contested ballot must be counted. The administration is opposed to the effort.
• The Predators (4-3-2) lost in the shootout to the Calgary Flames (5-5) 3-2 Tuesday night after leading the game by two goals midway through the third period. The Preds head to Chicago (5-3-2) on Friday before hosting the New York Islanders (5-3-1) on Saturday.
• Speaking of the Preds, an ESPN senior writer has anointed them the best franchise in professional sports in terms of fan support and affordability.
• The LifeWay Tower (you know, the one with the  120 ft. crosses on it?) is scheduled for implosion in December, though we haven’t been able to nail down the exact day for a watch party.
• Pedestrian fatalities in Nashville have jumped to 19 this year, three more than all of 2016. The winter months are historically the deadliest.
• The TBI says that a Nashville Fire Department captain allegedly burned down his own house last month in order to commit insurance fraud. He was placed on administrative leave following his arrest.
• Google Fiber (hey, remember those folks?) says that they have now expanded into 10 Nashville neighborhoods. As of press time, it still isn’t on our street.
• An finally, a viral video of a nurse singing to a terminally ill patient has a touching backstory.
