- It was a tragic Sunday in Antioch when a gunman opened fire at a church after services ended, killing one person and wounding between six and eight (depending on which news outlet you pick) others. The suspect is in custody.
- Folks living in Mount Juliet that take the Music Star into work every morning may soon have to find an alternative if city and Regional Transportation Authority leaders cannot work out a deal about back payments for station maintenance. The stop is among the most popular on the commuter rail line.
- Something that has confused us for a while is finally resolved now that the Ryman Auditorium will permanently move the “Confederate Gallery” sign to their on-site museum.
- Mayor Megan Barry will announce a new affordable housing initiative this week called “NeighborhoodLIFT” in association with Wells Fargo. The mayor’s office says that there will be a shortage of nearly 31,000 affordable housing by 2025 without action.
- The Tennessee Titans (2-1) defeated the Seattle Seahawks (1-2) on Sunday 33-27, outlasting a late surge after leading by as much as 16. The Titans travel to the Houston Texans (1-2) on Sunday.
- So, uh, you might have heard that neither the Seahawks nor the Titans participated in the national anthem following some guy’s tweets about the NFL. Even the anthem singer at Nissan Stadium took a knee while performing.
- Vanderbilt (3-1) had a please-ask-children-to-leave-the-room game against the Alabama Crimson Tide (4-0), losing 59-0. They head to Florida (2-1) on Saturday.
- The Nashville Predators were back in preseason action, defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-3 behind two goals by forward Kevin Fiala. We’re guessing his leg has healed up nicely.
- East Nashville High School hosted its first home football game on campus in 32 years. The team had played at a former prep school campus.
- Students at John Early Museum Magnet Middle Prep (side-note, that’s a mouthful) have created a public exhibit about the desegration of Nashville’s schools.
- Former Tennessee Titan wide receiver-turned-educator Kevin Dyson will host a charity event from 6:30 to 9 p.m. next Monday evening at the newly opened Top Golf in Nashville. Tickets start at $100 and include three hours of golf and a meal to benefit The Boys and Girls Club, Kappa League, and The Wisdom Foundation.
- Newly minted Predators captain Roman Josi has an incredible house in Franklin after moving out of his condo in midtown, which sold for $2.37 million.
- Antioch lost an informal mascot last week with the passing of Zoey the Goat. Zoey was known for her many festive bonnets.
