Good morning, Nashville. One of the ongoing controversies following the flood has been figuring out what to do with residents of Tent City–a homeless encampment near the river that was home to nearly 140 people. Like everything else, Tent City flooded and destroyed what few possessions these folks had including birth certificates and other important stuff. The possibly-toxic sludge left behind also made their tents uninhabitable. Homeless advocates are trying to figure out the best way to handle the situation since many of the residents chose to live there “off the grid”-style. Some have ended up on the streets or in shelters, others in temporary hotels or emergency housing, and the Metro Homelessness Commission is working hard to come up with a long-term solution.

• Unhappy neighbors. The Convention Center Authority has finally found a place for the Greyhound station to land, but not everyone is happy about this. In fact, we’d venture to say that most people involved are not happy about this.
• Slow and steady. Remember that toxic TVA ash spill of epic proportions out in Kingston in December 2008? The EPA is predicting that it will take another year to complete the cleanup effort.
• Bits & pieces. East Nashville will be getting a new energy-efficient neighborhood this fall … The Metro Crime Lab will still be built as planned despite the new location flooding … There are still plenty of flood jobs to go around … Dolly gave all the proceeds from this past weekend’s Dollywood sales to flood relief.
