Good morning, Nashville. Icy roads and stranded cars and roof collapsing aside, we have to say that we’re pretty sad to see #TheSituation2010 come to an end. We saw some creative snowmen, truly impressive sledding stunts (and some hilarious improvised sleds, and some nuns sledding…), Tokyo Cool Springs Mall drifting, citywide snowball fights and tasty new drink recipes. And for once, those weird little snowball-hurling polar bear statues didn’t seem so out of place. To quote the Tennessean, “Northerners might be better at driving on snow, but nobody appreciates the stuff like the people who have been waiting seven years to see it.” But for most of us, it’s back to real life and crossing our fingers that we don’t have to wait another seven years for the next storm.

• State of the State tonight. Governor Phil is gearing up to give his very last State of the State speech tonight at 6pm where he’ll address all sorts of unhappy things like layoffs and TennCare cuts and budget holes big enough to drive a car through. You can watch it unfold live at 6pm on News Channel 5 (we think).
• Hotel still up in the air. Some of the folks who were the most vocal about supporting the new convention center aren’t quite as eager to throw their support behind the convention center hotel project. Metro hopes to find a private financier for it, but it’s looking more and more likely that the city could end up footing the bill anyway.
• Bits & pieces. Nashville home prices might finally be nearing their peak … USA Today did a great spotlight on some of the sit-ins staged in Nashville during the Civil Rights Movement … Figuring out who gets to tap into Tennessee’s rainy day fund is not going to be an easy task … All Metro departments could be looking at another 7% budget cut across the board … Taylor Swift pretty much cleaned up at the Grammys last night.
