Good morning, Nashville. Our Hard Rock Cafe will be shutting down for a few weeks for a complete overhaul of the building’s interior, which is cool and all, but here’s the really neat part: While they’re closed, they’ll be putting their employees to good use by paying them to help the community. During this time, they’ll be working for several different charitable organizations around town including Habitat for Humanity, Musicians on Call, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Second Harvest Food Bank, and Dierks Bentley Miles & Music for Kids. We love people with good ideas and we love good ideas that make Nashville a better place, so thanks Hard Rock!
- Good news for Contributor. And speaking of good ideas, over the weekend we saw Nashville’s own street paper, the Contributor, on the front page of the Tennessean. The paper, published and sold by Nashville’s homeless, has received national recognition in recent weeks.
- Barry’s big day. Today is the day that President Obama will address the nation’s school kids about staying in school and being successful, except for all the kids and schools in Tennessee who have opted out. Metro Schools finally laid down the law on Friday, giving individual classrooms the right to make their own decisions about whether or not they’ll view it.
- Bits & pieces. There’s some weird new musical instrument that is “part boogie board, part piano and part guitar” that its creators hope catches on in Nashville … Nashville’s DUI cases are really stacking up … Apparently some folks in Brentwood are “fuming” about those pesky sign-twirlers … The lake water at Centennial Park maybe won’t kill us after all.
