- PSA: If you need gas, buy it, but don’t be like all the folks rushing to the pumps after rumors of shortages quickly became actual shortages. (Signed, everyone who lived through the Nashville gas shortage of 2009 ?)
- Multiple lawsuit, including the city effectively suing the city, have already been filed to block the Davidson County Election Commission’s decision to hold a ballot referendum on July 27, in which the city’s ability to set property tax rates could be significantly constrained, along with a host of other measures. Observers expect the matter to ultimately be settled in court.
- Nashville’s District Attorney is disavowing a murder conviction, saying that his predecessor ignored mounting evidence that they were prosecuting the wrong individual.
- Racing enthusiasts and neighbors again clashed at a public hearing over plans to expand the Fairgrounds Speedway, resuming ongoing tensions for the last several decades over noise and traffic concerns.
- Mirroring an effort in other states, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee is withdrawing the state from federal “enhanced unemployment benefits” that gave job-seekers an extra $300 a week during the pandemic. The payments will revert to the lower state benefit at the end of June.
- There won’t be any lines at this mural in Hillsboro Village, but it is a kind tribute to the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.
- The Metro Nashville Police Department may soon yield the the TBI and District Attorney’s office to decide what footage will be released after an officer-involved shooting after several recent fatal incidents and questions about their presentation’s neutrality. The MNPD Public Affairs division currently handles that decision.
- Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall raised eyebrows this week when suggested that some money should be diverted away from law enforcement and into psychiatric hospitals and other community services. He was speaking about a man who has been arrested more than 200 times, most recently for assault at Ascension Health in Midtown.
- The Tennessee Titans will open the 2021 season at home against the Arizona Cardinals on September 12, and will host the Buffalo Bills for Monday Night Football on October 18. The new season will have few preseason games and one extra playing week, with the Titans having 9 home games and 8 away.
- The Nashville Predators knocked off the Carolina Hurricanes 5-0 at home in their final warm-up before the playoffs begin next Wednesday. They will face the Hurricanes in the first round with the first two games in Raleigh, North Carolina.

- Neighbors in Antioch are frustrated after they feel a developer ran a bait-and-switch with a zoning change, building rental properties instead of single family homes they were promised.
- A new wine bar (with over 60 wines) is opening at Assembly Food Hall at the Fifth+Broadway development, and we’re kinda intrigued.
- It’s not Nashville, but the I-40 bridge in Memphis has a giant crack in it and will be closed in both directions (and for river traffic underneath) until repairs can be made.
