• Tennessee State University is set to name former Tennessee Titans running back Eddie George as its next head coach. It is his first head coaching role.
• The Belcourt Theater will expand its reopening  in a limited capacity on April 23 with two indoor showings. The venue has only sporadically opened since the pandemic began last March.
• Twin brothers apparently ran up a nearly $18,000 bar tab on Lower Broadway before bailing on it without paying according to a police report.
• In a separate incident, a man allegedly pepper sprayed the staff at Merchant’s on Broadway after they tried to stop him from leaving without paying.
• While the Nashville Zoo is still mourning the untimely death of Congo the giraffe, they did welcome two new animals to the exhibit last week.
• The Metro Health Department now says that masks are no longer required for outdoor dining and events, a requirement that had been difficult to enforce.
• Bellevue Middle School teacher Jenny Tygard has died, MNPS announced Friday. Tygard was 43.
• The Fisk Jubilee Singers celebrated their first ever Grammy win on campus for “Best Roots Gospel Album” for their 150th anniversary album called, “Celebrating Fisk.”
• Legislation proposed in the Tennessee Legislature would cut the eligibility timeframe for unemployment benefits in more than half, down from 26 weeks to 12.
• Any new Metro Council members elected this year and beyond will no longer be eligible for the lifetime health insurance benefit that has become a chief complaint among critics.
• The hotel developer that is under contract to purchase the Exit/In property says they will preserve the music venue, though the current operator continues to press them to sell to him instead.
• VUMC and nurse practitioners worked to provide 500 coronavirus vaccine doses to the city’s Latinx and Kurdish populations at an event this past weekend.
• The Nashville Predators (23-19-1) dropped a 3-0 game to the Tampa Bay Lighting (28-11-2) Saturday night at home before picking up a crucial 3-2 win in overtime over the Dallas Stars (15-14-11) last night. They host the Tampa Bay Lightning again tomorrow night.
• Today is the NHL trade deadline is at 2 p.m. CT today and the Nashville Predators could be buyers, sellers or neither. It’s been that kind of season.
• A Quiz Bowl team from Vanderbilt University won the 2021 Intercollegiate Championship Tournament, besting 31 other teams.
• Bobby Hotel, a boutique hotel in downtown Nashville, will now accept cryptocurrency to pay for your stay if that’s your thing.
