- Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!
- A grand jury has returned an indictment for first-degree murder against officer Andrew Delke stemming from the shooting death of Daniel Hambrick last July. Delke’s attorneys say he will plead not guilty and fight the charges.
- The board of directors for Metro General Hospital is considering relocating when their lease is up in 2024 with Meharry Medical College. The hospital primarily serves Nashville’s homeless or residents living in poverty.
- In a bit of a controversial move, James Shaw, Jr. was granted a second chance to interview for the Community Oversight Board after originally missing his interview slot. The group that spearheaded the board’s creation said in a release that no one should receive preferential treatment.
- There was a gigantic military aircraft circling low over downtown Friday, causing a mild panic. Turns out it was a make-up run for the canceled fly-over for new Tennessee Governor Bill Lee’s inaugural festivities Saturday. ✈️
- You might have also heard the 19-gun salute from a piece of artillery near the capital and could be heard several miles away. The more familiar 21-gun salute is reserved for heads of state.
- Former Governor Bill Haslam commuted three sentences and pardoned 20 people on his last full day in office. It is a customary gesture when a governor is leaving office.
- The Nashville Predators (28-18-4) lost 5-1 to the Winnipeg Jets (31-15-2) Thursday night and 4-2 to the Florida Panthers (19-20-8) Saturday night, both games at home. The team hits the road for a game tonight against the Colorado Avalanche (22-18-8) and Wednesday night against the Vegas Golden Knights (29-17-4).
- The team will take to the ice of that Colorado game without forward Ryan Johansen, who was suspended for two games for pretty egregious foul against a Winnipeg player. Uh, can’t do that, Joey.

- The Nashville Humane Society is hosting a food bank to benefit furloughed federal workers during the current partial government shutdown. The shutdown has now lasted for about 31 days.
