- A personal finance website says that a Nashville household must make at least $80,548 per year to live comfortably, while the actual media household makes $49,891. That $30,000 gap is as wide as it has ever been.
- The city buses that are basically rolling ads for law offices may soon shed those ads entirely in an effort to make them more appealing to first time riders. We really just wanted to see the Bart Durham and Morgan & Morgan ones drag race. ?
- Remember that “indoor drive-in” called August Moon we wrote about last year? The owner says that while the current parking lot near the stadium is still the leading candidate for a location, he has opened up discussions with at least one other location in Nashville and as far away as Pigeon Forge.
- Two of the four candidates for State House District 54 were in the news Wednesday, with one owing $318,000 in back taxes to the IRS while another is the subject of an ethics complaint over campaign finances. A third candidate was served a restraining order earlier in the week.
- Not everyone is on board with adding bike lanes in the Cleveland Park neighborhood in East Nashville with nearby residents resisting the effort after they were said to have caused accidents. The area is transitioning to more expensive housing, further dividing residents.
- The First Lady paid a visit on Tuesday to the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital to highlight their treatments of children born addicted to opioids. The visit was part of her “Be Best” campaign.
- Nashville Predators forward Austin Watson plead no contest to domestic assault stemming from an incident where police say he shoved his girlfriend at a gas station. The team has not made a decision about his future, pending the NHL’s investigation.
- The Preds signed a familiar face during the free agent period, reuniting defenseman Dan Hamhuis and Music City.
- A middle school principal is facing numerous charges of sexual harassment of subordinates and potential hires, including from an assistant principal that is also running for State Senate. Fair warning that the accusations are a bit graphic if you’re on a work computer.
- Labor groups are calling for change after multiple worker deaths on construction sites around the city. There were 10 reported worker deaths in the Middle Tennessee area last year.
- The new owners of The Nashville Scene and Nashville Post made an … interesting … hire to bring in a former editorial board member of The Tennessean Frank Daniels III to lead their new subsidiary, FW Publishing. More changes are likely at the city’s alternative newspaper and its sister publication.
- Five regional restaurateurs will host their second installment of a series called “Brown In the South” to give Nashville a taste of the Indian summer. The event will be August 13 at Chauhan Ale & Masala House, with tickets running $135 for a multi-course meal with tax and gratuity included.
- A Bellevue family is spending thousands of dollars to rid their home of brown recluse spiders after finding several each each week. Burning the house down apparently wasn’t an option. ?
- Finally, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the 80s movie “Animal House”, Metro Animal Care & Control is waving all adoptions fees through July 29 for dogs and cats at the shelter.
