- Today marks 100 years since the Dutchman’s Curve train accident in what is now West End area, the single deadliest passenger train accident in US history with more 100 dead. The death-toll is considered underestimated by many historians, as most of the dead were black men traveling in poorly maintained wooden cars.
- A magazine that covers state and government issues took a look at Nashville’s current budget crunch and did not paint as rosy a picture about the city’s future. The article highlighted the increased crime and trouble caused by financing large civic projects.

Their enterprise then puts money back into public education about recycling.
- Erica Gilmore, a former mayoral candidate and current metro council member, has apologized for comparing the city’s current issues with youth crime to those of Beruit, Lebanon (the other Lebanon). She had made the comments during a community meeting meant to address the topic.

- Early voting begins for the August primaries and some local elections, including for the unexpired Vice Mayor term, at the Howard School Building before expanding to local precincts on July 19. These are the primaries for US House, Senate and the state legislature that will head to the general election in November.
