- Welp, IKEA made it official that we will not be getting a store in Nashville after all. The store was slated to open in 2020 near Antioch.
- The developers of 300 acres of land, which IKEA would have occupied 30, are moving ahead with plans for Century Farms and TDOT says the plans for the interchange will continue as well. They cite the expected growth of the area in general, even without its anchor tenant.
- You probably got the “Blue Alert” on your phone yesterday about a gunman who shot and killed a deputy in Dickson County. As of this writing he remains at large.
- The President’s visit to Municipal Auditorium on Tuesday happened. Yep; moving on.
- Metro’s lawyers have asked a judge to order all Bird scooters removed from sidewalks and parks, escalating the tension between the company and the city over the new entrant in the “dock-less” transportation market. This follows an incident where two women were seriously injured while attempting to ride a single scooter through a crosswalk.
- A Metro Council member has filed a bill to regulate the scooters, which judging from a drive around town, remain popular with folks. A separate bill would remove requirements for all safety gear except a helmet.
- Organizers unveiled plans for converting part of the The Fairgrounds Nashville into an MLS stadium and moving some of the existing functions of the venue (namely, the monthly flea market) to another part of the property. The city council must approve any changes to the fairgrounds after a 2011 referendum.
- Those organizers say that a “Community Benefit Agreement” will guide them in building affordable housing, providing jobs and preserving the history of the area around the stadium, but skeptics see it as little more than marketing fluff.
- Some folks were, well, not happy with the plans and the police had to be called to respond to a scuffle. Fairgrounds supporters have argued against using the location for the soccer stadium, fearing it will doom other business at the site.
- Part of the Nashville International Airport was briefly evacuated yesterday after a bomb-sniffing dog alerted on a suspicious package. The package was later determined to be harmless.
