- The Metro Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to rename a portion of Charlotte Avenue downtown for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with the name taking effect in November. Nashville had been the only major city in Tennessee not have a street named after the civil rights leader.
- The council also defeated a proposal 25-5 to create a Community Oversight Board for the police department, which has supporters changing their plan to bypass the council by way of a referendum. The group needs 4,300 signatures of registered Davidson County voters by the first week of August to appear on the November ballot.
- The Tennessee Titans unveiled their new uniforms Wednesday night at a block party downtown. The uniform set includes an alternate, and the familiar white helmets will now be blue.
- The Nashville Predators (51-18-11) couldn’t catch a break Tuesday night in their 1-2 loss to the Florida Panthers (41-30-8) after a last second goal was disallowed for alleged goaltender interference.
