- A fire at a South Nashville home killed three women and injured several more early Wednesday morning. The home was a residential recovery center and investigators say it did not have sprinklers or smoke detectors, prompting the city Fire Marshall to inspect other properties belonging to the owners.
- PSA: You can obtain free smoke detectors for your home through the State of Tennessee website. Your local fire department will handle the installation.
- Metro Public Works is conducting a survey about its recycling services, so if you want more recycling options (more often, glass and compost pickup, for example), this is the survey to fill out.
- The Nashville Predators (34-12-9) rallied from being down 3-0 to the St. Louis Blues (34-21-4) through two periods Tuesday night to winning 3-4 on an overtime penalty shot goal from Filip Forsberg. The Predators return to action tonight against the Calgary Flames (29-20-8) and against the Red Wings (23-23-9) Saturday night with both games at Bridgestone Arena.
- The Metro Nashville Police Department says there were 262 suspected carjackings last year, with the South Nashville precinct having the most reported incidents at 56.
- A former MNPD officer is suing the city for what he says is a violation of his First Amendment rights in firing him last year after a Facebook post came to light. He had posted controversial comments about a Minnesota man killed by police.
- Inc. Magazine seems to think Nashville is the leading candidate for the new Amazon headquarters, but we’re a bit skeptical. Nashville made the list of 20 candidates nationwide for Amazon HQ2.
- Did you know cotton candy and Nashville are intertwined, and that it was somewhat ironically invented by a dentist? Now you do!
- Vanderbilt University Medical Center reported that it has seen about 365 flu-related patients in the last six weeks. Seriously, get a flu shot y’all.
- A “technical glitch” is said to be to blame for Sgt. Rob Forrest’s overtime to be approved by the mayor’s chief of staff rather than Metro Police Chief Steve Anderson. The mayor is currently under investigation for her admitted extramarital affair with Forrest, her former head of security.
- Vice Mayor David Briley has named seven council members to the committee that will conduct one of those investigations. There are still questions around how their expenses will be paid.
- Nashville moved up from 25th to 27th in a report of cities with the worst traffic, citing a three percent reduction in congestion. Yay?
