- A convention of convention planners (how meta!) tried to set a new world record for “people assembled in the shape of a musical instrument” in Hall of Fame Park near Music City Center. They came up short with 1,296 folks, so the record set in 2014 in Nice, France of 1,660 will continue to stand.
- The Belmont University community mourned the death of Thom Storey, chairman of their Media Studies department and journalism professor for more than 30 years. He was 62.
- Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville has withdrawn as the venue for alumnae and former state senator Mae Beavers’s “Homeland Security Summit” (not at all affiliated with the federal department), saying that the event “would distract from our commitment to community building, education, and support of a diverse enrollment.” The event has been criticized as anti-Islam and the panelists described as conspiracy theorists.
- The Metro Council held a public hearing Tuesday separate of their usual meetings on the proposed transit referendum dubbed “Let’s Move Nashville.” The hearing lasted three hours with long lines for residents (and a few out of town folks) to voice their opinion on the ballot measure.
- Bonnaroo has announced its artist lineup for this June’s music festival, but you probably already knew that if you planned to go. It’s your typical Live Nation fare of mainstream acts.
- A Nolensville Road intersection was re-worked by the Tennessee Department of Transportation to focus on pedestrian safety after it was identified as one of the most dangerous in the city. Last year was a particularly deadly one in Nashville for folks struck by vehicles.
- Airbnb would like you to know they generate a lot of money for local businesses (an estimated $304 million) and that a lot of people in Nashville use them (more than 600,000 in 2017). The Metro Council is expected to take up another round of proposed regulations next Tuesday.
- Charlie Daniels would like you and Taco Bell to know that the Illuminati is nothing to joke about, and we are just as confused as you are as to why this is somehow a news story. 2018, you were supposed to make more sense, not less.
- Somebody decided that downtown Nashville needed yet another four story-bar, apparently. We’ll be over here in our one-story bars not falling down stairs or out of windows, thanks.
- Could this finally be the year that Lake Palmer gets something to fill it now that a real estate firm is accepting bids for a project? We’re not taking that bet.
- If you notice more folks around the State Capitol lately, it’s because the legislature is back in session. We’re heading into the midterm elections that will include a US senator and governor, so look for a lot of record-affirming bills to be introduced.
- The Predators (25-11-6) picked up a streak-extending win Tuesday night 1-2 over the Edmonton Oilers (18-23-3), having beaten the that team 11 straight times dating back to March of 2014. The team is now in the middle of a “bye” week and will return to action next Tuesday hosting the Vegas Golden Knights (29-10-2).
- Speaking of the Preds, goaltender Pekka Rinne will join head coach Peter Laviolette and defenceman PK Subban in Tampa Bay at the end of the month for the All Star Weekend. Have fun, guys!
- PSA: There’s snow in the forecast tomorrow (cool!) along with ice and sleet (not cool at all). Today’s rain could make it difficult to brine the roads effectively, so plan accordingly!
