- Big news for Slurpee fans (including our two co-founders): The Tiger Mart on West End Ave. will be replaced with a 7-Eleven, contingent on a sale being finalized by the end of the year.
- We really don’t know what to make of this story about a local musician trying to out-maneuver {insert name that Sean Combs is going by today here}. We are probably more in the Puffy/P. Diddy era.
- Nashville SC (the professional soccer team we have that is not affiliated with the MLS … yet) has landed a pretty big sponsorship deal with Nissan North America.
- The mayor’s office has released a map and scheduled a public meeting next Thursday to discuss the downtown transit tunnel that is part of the $5.2 billion package to be proposed to voters next spring.
- In a separate announcement Wednesday, the mayor announced that the proposed light rail line would be extended down Charlotte Avenue to White Bridge Road, adding $240 million to the cost. The original proposal had ended near Centennial Park.
- An estimated 21,000 people will be traveling out of Nashville International Airport over the Thanksgiving holiday, with 23,000 on Sunday as they return home. The AAA predicts this travel season will be the busiest in 12 years.
- The metro council deferred a vote until December 5 that would have finalized a ban on those super bright rope lights that adorn businesses along major thoroughfares in Nashville. One blogger points out that it purposefully ignores downtown businesses.
- Nashville has been named the “drunkest city” in Tennessee by a financial news blog after examining records related to excessive drinking.
- The $195 million federal courthouse, long sought after by mid-state lawmakers, is scheduled to begin construction next summer with a revamped design. The replacement building was originally proposed nearly three decades ago.
- A large fight at John Overton High School has landed 14 students in jail, with two being charged as adults. Police say the incident was sparked by matters outside of school.
- Family members of a metro council memberĀ are in hot water after allegedly operating short term rental properties without the required permits. Councilwoman Holly Huezo is facing new questions about potential conflicts of interest after she voted against new regulations.
- The Nashville Predators (13-6-2) beat the Montreal Canadiens (8-12-3) Wednesday night 2-3 behind two goals from forward Filip Forsberg and a shootout winner from Kyle Turris. They head out on the road for a game Friday night in St. Louis against the Blues (16-5-1) and an early game at noon Sunday against the Carolina Hurricanes (9-7-4).
- Pope Francis announced Tuesday that Father J. Mark Spalding of Lexington, Kentucky will become the 12th Bishop of Nashville. Spalding assumes the role after the death of Bishop David Choby in June.
- A Nashville woman found more than $7,000 in charges attributed to Uber, despite her app not showing any of the charges.
