- We keep reading about this “Nashville Statement” going around, and decided we liked this one better. Even Nashville Mayor Megan Barry took to Twitter to denounce the original document.
- The Nashville Fire Department is joining with more than 90 other Tennessee search and rescues crews to help in Houston and the surrounding area, again showing why we live in the Volunteer State.
- Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk has pledged a million dollars to Houston Texan’s linebacker JJ Watt’s foundation for flood relief. Well done!
- Metro Nashville Police and other emergency management officials warned of possible isolated flooding over the next few days as the remnants of Harvey dump rain on the mid-state region.
- It’s probably also a good time to bring back up Nashville’s own flood preparedness, including the unfinished downtown flood wall.
- The Nashville Business Journal caught our attention Tuesday with a story about the mayor’s office perhaps-maybe-possibly exploring a downtown subway system. The Nashville Scene would like for you to note that it probably has zero chance of happening.
- A coalition of groups has come together to support the yet-to-be-written ballot referendum next year for mass transit improvement in Nashville. No word yet on the specific language of the proposal.
- The East Nashville public housing project called John Cayce Homes will soon be called “Boscobel Heights” as developers begin the next phase of converting the land into mixed income residential.
- While most of the focus on recent weeks has been around two statues of Nathan Bedford Forrest, protestors shrouded a statue of Sam Davis — a confederate soldier — on Monday at the state capitol. The protestors were also focused on the Fraternal Order of Police’s national convention being held downtown.
- You can now register online to vote in Tennessee. Prior to this week, you either had to mail a paper form or apply in person at the election commission.
