Good morning, Nashville. In the past year, local law enforcement reports that home burglaries have increased 18-20% all over Nashville. Though police haven’t quite identified a reason for that, Nashvillians are being urged to take more precautions against break-ins like getting an alarm system, joining a local Neighborhood Watch, getting to know our neighbors and making sure we’ve got insurance to cover our losses if someone steals our stuff.
- Sales tax increase for Williamson? Already in a state with one of the highest sales taxes in the country, Williamson County may soon raise their sales tax by a half-percent. County officials say that they’ve trimmed the budget as much as they can and just need some more revenue.
- Chicken biscuits 4eva. Chick-Fil-A is scoping out a vacant bank at the corner of Harding and Woodlawn in Belle Meade for a potential new drive-thru location. The problem is that current zoning policies forbid drive-thrus on corner lots, so some changes would have to be made that could take a while. For now, we’ll just have to keep driving all the way to Brentwood or braving the Batman Building.
- Bits & pieces. The movie “Deadline” starring Eric Roberts and Steven Talley is scheduled to be filmed at Rippavilla Plantation in Spring Hill, home of the best corn maze ever … In addition to being the fourth brainiest city, Nashville was ranked the 19th best shopping city in the US by Forbes … Governor Haslam is proposing a new law that would increase the tenure requirements for public school teachers … Metro Finance Director Rich Riebeling has fixed his ethics disclosure forms, thank you very much.
