As we all know by now, the Belcourt Theatre has been tapped as one of just eight host theaters for Sundance USA, a first-time extension of the annual nationwide Sundance Film Festival. We’ve been waiting anxiously for the big reveal to learn which film & filmmaker the Belcourt will host, but the wait is over! Announced this afternoon, the Belcourt will screen Sundance 2010 selection The Extra Man (Directors: Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini; Screenwriters: Robert Pulcini, Jonathan Ames and Shari Springer Berman; Cast: Kevin Kline, Paul Dano, John C. Reilly and Katie Holmes).
Filmmakers will travel with their films to the eight Sundance USA cities, where they will introduce and screen their films for the first time, as well as participate in a Q&A session with the audience. Sundance USA will take place the night of Thursday, January 28 across the nation, and tickets to The Extra Man go on sale at the Belcourt this Friday, December 11 at 10am (tickets are already available to Belcourt members).
Additionally, the Belcourt is featuring a special collection of short films from Sundance ’09 this weekend. 2009 Sundance Shorts features the 10 best short films from last year’s festival (out of a whopping 5,632 submissions), and the collection will screen just six times this weekend – Friday at 7pm & 9:35pm; Saturday at 12:15pm, 7pm & 9:35pm; Sunday at 12:15pm.
