Happy Hour: Keep On Truckin’
- We got our state report card today and there is some good news: Our high school graduation rate has gone up! The bad news is that our kids still can’t read good. [Tennessean]
- Some former Six Flags execs have purchased Nashville Shores, but don’t get your hopes up because they already said they’re not building us any rollercoasters. What fun is that? [Nashville Is Talking]

- The lawsuit against Metro Schools and their controversial rezoning plan had its first day in federal court today. The lawsuit claims that the school rezoning that went into effect this year re-segregated Nashville schools and grouped kids from bad neighborhoods into bad schools with no books. [WKRN]
- “Contrary to what you may have heard, nobody was shot on the campus of Tennessee State University today.” Awesome. [Tennessean]
- A suspicious package in Lebanon which turned out to be a poorly-wrapped bench (?? – Ed.) made for a messy commute on the Music City Star this evening. [WTVF]

Bright & Early: Disaster Tourism Edition
Good morning, Nashville. Roane County may be putting the kibosh on the TVA’s plans to build an overlook for passers-by to view the progress on the coal ash cleanup. According to county officials, the TVA never consulted them before developing the viewing area which is supposed to include a parking lot big enough for 20 cars. The TVA claims that they were only trying to promote transparency, but some folks would rather try to forget about it and not have the extra traffic from visitors gawking at the site. In related news, the EPA is also considering some new guidelines for handling coal ash that critics complain will make it easier for the TVA to bypass hazmat regulations.
- Controversy in the Hills. A new billboard in Green Hills is causing some ruckus, and no, it’s not that borderline-inappropriate one with the shirtless dude bragging about only putting the best wood on tables.
- Wear your helmets. It was apparently a rough night downtown with a drunk driver taking out a light pole at 3rd and Commerce and a dead body turning up at 5th and Church.
- Bits & pieces. A thousand more H1N1 flu shots made their way into Nashville yesterday … A local dentist is paying kids by the pound for their Halloween candy … Congrats to Preds goalie Pekka Rinne for being named NHL’s second star of the week … Metro Council will discuss some new regulations for adult businesses.
