Happy Hour: Final Four Invasion

  • Mark your calendars: Nashville is hosting the NCAA women’s basketball Final Four tournament! In uh, 2014! [Nashville Post]
  • Metro Police are (hopefully) in the process of clearing a major accident that had all westbound lanes of Briley Parkway closed. A police officer and two TDOT employees were injured when a minivan rear-ended their vehicle while they were pulled over to help a broken-down bus full of kids. [WTVF]
  • Half the Metro Council members are off at a conference in Orlando while the other half are at home telling the taxpayers that the trip is costing us all about $20K.
  • Just as the folks in Wilson County are laying the groundwork for Bible Park USA to move in, Rutherford County is appealing a judge’s ruling and trying to get it back. [WSMV]
  • Governor Phil is trying to slice all the state departments’ budgets by 10% in his latest attempt to make up for our enormous deficit. [Tennessean]

Meet The Rockettes: The Radio City Christmas Spectacular

Missed the Radio City Rockettes at last night’s Lighting Ceremony out at the Opryland Hotel? Never fear, you’ve got several more opportunities to meet the Rockettes without actually paying to go to a show. Of course, we suggest that you do pay to go to a show – It’s a Christmas tradition in Nashville. The Radio City Christmas Spectacular begins today out at the Grand Ole Opry House and tickets are a bit on the pricey side, but hey, it’s Christmas. Back on the free side of things, the Rockettes are making a bunch of random appearances around town in the coming weeks to promote the Christmas show.

  • Saturday, November 15, 11am-1pm at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds’ Christmas Village
  • Thursday, November 20, 9am-11am at The Factory in Franklin, Junior League of Nashville’s Holiday Marketplace fundraiser
  • Friday, November 21, 12pm-2pm also at The Factory Holiday Marketplace
  • Friday, November 28, 6:30am-7:15am at Opry Mills’ Barnes & Noble. Make Black Friday shopping a little less miserable!

Photo Of The Day: November 14, 2008 [Feel Good Friday]

Ben Folds and his kids, Gracie and Louie, were spotted by Flickr user Alexa Sullivant near SATCo on Election Day. And what Nashvillian doesn’t love Ben Folds, right?

Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry–we’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Bright & Early: In Wally’s World Edition

Good morning, Nashville. When we hear about drive-by shootings, Walmart isn’t the first location that comes to mind. But late last night, one car opened fire on another in the Nolensville Walmart parking lot (you know, the one that just got valet parking) and landed one man in the hospital with a bullet to the face. Luckily it just grazed him, but no one’s real sure about why it happened in the first place.

  • Interesting tidbit. Titans’ Chris Johnson is on Lil Wayne’s fantasy football team, which Johnson explains is why Lil Wayne wore the jersey during his performance at the CMA Awards. This still doesn’t solve the mystery of why Lil Wayne was performing at the CMA Awards.
  • When in doubt… Why is Metro petitioning to borrow $59M from Clarksville? Well, we blame the Germans. One of the banks the city borrows from–a GERMAN bank–had its rating downgraded during this whole economy fiasco, so Metro has to pay them sooner than they thought.
  • Bits & pieces. The city is targeting undocumented immigrants who have repeatedly entered the country after being deported for some serious jail time … Mayor Dean is implementing some new green initiatives, but trust us–the best part of this article is the picture … 22 people were robbed at gunpoint in Springfield, but not all at the same time.
