Happy Hour: Barrel Of Laughs (And Our 500th Post!)
- You may be among the few and the proud who have been around Nashville long enough to remember Adam Dread, former councilman/radio host/stand-up comedian who spent the better part of his term with his foot permanently lodged in his mouth. Well, he’s back on the stage and opening up for comedian Steve McGraw at Zanies tonight through Saturday. We don’t know about you, but we sort of love public officials gone wrong. [Pith In The Wind]
- The English First drama continues, but is expected to come to an end today after a judge decides whether or not the measure will go on the ballot. At the rate it’s going, we’re guessing it’s far from over. [WSMV]
- Rep. Marsha Blackburn and former senator Bill Frist will have their time in the RNC spotlight tonight when they open up for Sen. John McCain. [Tennessean]
- If there are any old folks out there, you may be missing out on your chance to freeze your property taxes. We don’t exactly fit the bill since you have to be over 65 to qualify, but you may want to pass the info along to any seniors you know. [WSMV]

Coffee & Cupcakes Update

Some of our local coffee and cupcake makers have been very busy. Here are some of the latest updates from Crema, DrinkHaus, The Sugar Bar and Gigi’s Cupcakes:
- CREMA is offering some great coffee classes this fall. Choose from Espresso 101 (9/27; 3:30pm), Brewing Techniques (10/25; 3:30pm) and Coffee Tasting (11/15; 3:30pm). Space is very limited, so email rachel@crema-coffee.com to sign up now.
- DRINKHAUS is expanding their hours due to popular request. Starting September 15, they will be open Monday-Friday from 6am-9pm, Saturday from 9am-10pm and Sunday from 9am-3pm.
- THE SUGAR BAR is no longer setting up shop at the Farmer’s Market every weekend. We’re really sad, but we understand. Ugly Mugs carries their cupcakes, so we’ll manage.
- GIGI’S has set up shop in the Cool Springs Galleria. Their new cupcake stand can be found on the 2nd level near Footlocker. They’ve conquered downtown and Cool Springs… Next up: world domination.
- Pssst: Starbucks brought back the pumpkin spice latte yesterday morning. We promise that we recognize the superiority of local coffee and our local coffee shops, so take it easy on us (everyone has a guilty pleasure).

Photo Of The Day: September 4, 2008
We’ve seen all kinds of graffiti around Nashville, but this kind is pretty new to us. What better way to declare your love than to carve it into the bamboo at the Nashville Zoo? Thanks to the8rgrl for the submission.
Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry- We’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Nashville Originals Restaurant Week September 15-21
Everyone hates getting up early and participating in the online knock-down-drag-out for high demand discounted Nashville Originals gift certificates. The sales occur quarterly, and they’re never really specific with the start times. If you arrive at the site even five minutes late on a sale day, half of the better gift certificates will be sold out. It’s frustrating (especially when you wake up early only to be defeated by the Nashvillians who were a little softer on the snooze button).
Our woes are soon to be no more. The week of September 15-21, many of the Nashville Originals restaurant members are participating in the First Annual Restaurant Week. It’s a three course prix fixe for $20.08 per person. Participating restaurants include Bound’ry, Flyte, Cabana, Germantown Cafe, Mambu, Ombi, Rumba, Tayst, Tin Angel, Wild Iris, Yellow Porch, Zola and more. Most of the restaurants have issued a limited menu (found on the Restaurant Week site), but some such as Germantown Cafe are giving pretty much free reign over the menu. PM’s menu for Restaurant Week even includes a sake flight.
A week of fine dining at a low price is so much better than the online gift certificate sale. But for the competitive among us, that will still be there too. Thank you, Nashville Originals.

Bright & Early: Float On Edition
Good morning, Nashville. The town was all a-twitter yesterday with sightings of the Goodyear Blimp hanging out over downtown. Turns out that the “largest evacuee” was just on its way inland like anyone else dodging hurricanes these days. After lurking around Nashville yesterday afternoon, the blimp was bound for its Ohio HQ to wait out the two hurricanes spinning toward the East Coast. Mystery solved.
- Overdose at McGavock. A 17-year old student at McGavock High School was rushed to the hospital yesterday after drinking something like liquid ecstasy given to him by a classmate, drawing lots of attention to the school’s raging drug problem.
- Ring of honor. The Titans will be adding a Ring of Honor to LP Field when the season starts this weekend. We’re not entirely sure what that is, but we hear it’s kind of a big deal. Maybe some of you football fans can help us out.
- Bits & pieces. The Preds TV schedule is up online now, and you can check it out at their official site … The MTA and the RTA are getting ready to merge, which could be good news for our embarrassing public transportation system … A former UT professor is looking at 160 years in prison for selling military secrets to the Chinese.
