Happy Hour: Strut Your Stuff
- Elvis’ infamous peacock jumpsuit with the “plunging neckline” was auctioned off online for $300K, solidly beating the Elvis auction record of $295K for one of his cars. [WTVF]
- The Tennessee Highway Patrol handed out 1000 “buckle bears” and coloring books to troopers that they can give to kids at the scene of car wrecks. The bears are sort of weird-looking and are wearing seat belts, but it’s a cute idea. [WTVF]
- Speaking of car wrecks, Morgan Freeman was released from the hospital in Memphis today with a broken arm, broken elbow, and damage to his shoulder. [WTVF]
- If the population keeps changing at the rate it has been, white folks will be in the minority in Davidson County by 2024. [Tennessean]
- A meter reader from NES was treated to a nice surprise when he found 40 marijuana plants chilling on the back porch of “someone involved in the country music industry”’s house during a routine reading. [WSMV]

Photo Of The Day: August 7, 2008
We don’t usually use two photos of the same subject two days in a row, but this one was too cool to pass up. Taken by beerbrain on real actual film (remember that?) at the Mt. Olivet graveyard back in the ’70s, it’s the result of superimposing, or blending two images together at the printing stage. According to the photographer, there were two oxygen tanks inside the tomb running into the casket. Creepy?
Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry- We’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Nashville Rollergirls Want YOU
That’s right, the Rollergirls are holding tryouts on Monday. This is your chance to become part of a legend. Who can pass that up? You must be female, 21 or older, and extremely dedicated. And it can’t hurt if you’re able to stand up on skates.
Next OFFICAL TRYOUTS will be Monday, August 11th starting at 6pm at the Fairgrounds! Those who pass are welcome to join the Nashville Rollergirls and skate with us at all practices.
If you can’t make it out, please don’t fret. Contact membership@nashvillerollergirls.comto speak with a member of recruitment about what you can do to be a Nashville Rollergirl. We have ongoing newbie training every Monday from 6-7pm at the Fairgrounds.
If you’d rather remain on the sidelines, their next bout is at the Fairgrounds on Saturday (7pm).

Bright & Early: See You At The Polls
Good morning, Nashville. Today’s primary kicks off what’s sure to be an eventful election season all around. For a list of the primaries you may want to be watching out for, check out TennViews. And if you’re wondering where you can get in on the action, head over to the Davidson County Election Commission’s website to find out where you can vote.
- Fight! Fight! After a few weeks of practicing against themselves, the Titans are ready to start playing other people. In their first practice with the St. Louis Rams, City Paper is reporting that no less than four fights broke out between the teams yesterday.
- Considering wind energy. A bill set to be introduced at tonight’s Metro Council meeting would allow small windmills to be built in any kind of zoning district in an effort to encourage a shift towards alternative energy. The bill would regulate the appearance and the noise in hopes of making sure the structures wouldn’t disturb the neighbors, who’ve complained that they would be “as ugly as cell phone towers.”
- Bits & pieces. A bystander was killed at an Antioch O’Charley’s when a drug dealer came into the restaurant to collect his cash from an employee … After a fight broke out at McGavock High School’s Tuesday night orientation, school officials have called for beefed-up security and a meeting with parents tomorrow night … Councilman Eric Crafton is still plugging away at the English First ordinance.
