Good morning, Nashville. We’ve known some changes were coming to Metro Schools for a while now, but yesterday new director Jesse Register gave us the scoop. Not only will there be some restructuring of specific positions in the central office, but more than 200 folks–several entire departments–will have to reapply for their jobs, which will also be open to the public. So if you’re dying to work in our sad school system, the deadline is May 5th and the positions that are up for grabs should be posted here.
- Good deeds. It isn’t all bad for Metro Schools, though–the Country Music Association just donated some new pianos to several area high schools as a part of the “Keep the Music Playing” program.
- Everybody panic. Tennesseans might not have the swine flu yet, but it’s certainly thwarting all those trips we planned to take to Mexico! Meanwhile, the US had its first fatality from the virus in Texas and they may have actually found the first person who had it and then spread all the love.
- Bits & pieces. LP Field is hosting a massive job fair from 10am-3pm today … A 16-year old Hillsboro High School student was discovered to have a gun in her car, which she said is actually her father’s … Despite what the mayor said in his speech last week, people are starting to worry less about a state takeover of schools.
