- Metro Schools are closed today and tomorrow ahead of their annual spring break “out of an abundance of caution” as concerns about the spread of COVID-19 continue.
- Nearly 100 groups have canceled their events in Nashville amid coronavirus fears, hurting downtown businesses already reeling from last week’s tornadoes.
- The Tennessee Department of Health reports that the state has nine confirmed cases, with five in Williamson County, two in Nashville, one in Memphis, and one in Sullivan County. The department came under fire for refusing to release county-level counts.
- One of those infected is a Vanderbilt University Medical Center healthcare provider, experiencing mild symptoms. The exposure prompted changes in hospital policies related to visitors, which are now limited in number and must be screened prior to entering treatment areas.
- Vanderbilt University has canceled all in-person classes for the remainder of the spring semester after a student there tested positive for the disease, and says that all residence halls must be cleared by the weekend. Belmont, Trevecca, and others have also moved to online classes.
- The Equity Alliance hosted an event to educate homeowners considering selling their property after the tornadoes about their options and how to avoid scammers severely undervaluing the property.
- WeGo Public Transit will be rolling out a series of less drastic changes to its bus routes next month.
- The SEC’s Men’s Basketball Tournament will be closed to only players, coaches, and essential staff (meaning, no fans) starting today at Bridgestone Arena following the recommendation by the NCAA. There are a lot of disappointed fans in town this week.
- Vanderbilt Baseball will also host fan-less game over coronavirus concerns, with last night’s game being the last one until further notice.
- The Nashville Predators (35-26-8) beat the Montreal Canadiens (31-31-9) 4-2 Tuesday night on the road, extending their winning streak to three games. The team continues their road trip against the Maple Leafs (36-25-9) tonight.
- The NHL is expected to announce today their plans for the remainder of the season after the NBA abruptly suspended play after a Utah Jazz player tested positive for the disease.
