- There is some drama in the District 19 council race, where challenger Joshua Parant has been tossed off the ballot for August’s election after a letter was filed with the election commission on behalf of incumbent council member Freddie O’Connell saying that he failed to meet residency requirements. For his part, the candidate disagrees with the commission’s determination.
- The Ryman Auditorium welcomed its first hip-hop act in its 125-year history when Wu-Tang Clan played last night. Everyone’s already made the clever references, so we won’t try.
- LilNasX, Billy Ray Cyrus and Keith Urban teamed up to play “Old Town Road” at CMAFest, a viral song that is completely unavoidable if you use the internet or listen to any amount of Top 40 radio right now. ?
- The mayor’s office took exception to a column saying he is “aimless” during his term as mayor and put out a list of accomplishments in his 14 months on the job.

- In a separate incident, a woman allegedly got drunk on two bottles of wine and “went psycho” on her AirBnB. Gonna guess she’ll have issues renting from them again.
- While we don’t crown winners in our annual #CMAPocolypse Bingo, we can at least say somebody had the best entry for her designated square.
- Lyft’s scooters now have a hang tag to remind customers to not ride them on sidewalks. Good luck on that front, y’all.
- The other video that has gone viral this week around Nashville can be be summed up as “scooters meet questionable parenting choices.”
- A comedy group has made an amusing PSA to convince people to please, please stop moving to Nashville. We hear Austin is nice.
- Meharry Medical College has accepted a $7.5 million grant to study the medical effects of e-cigarettes and vaping as compared to traditional cigarette smoking, funded by JUUL, a company that sells those products. The institution says that researchers will have “complete freedom” to publish the results without prior review by the company.
- Germantown is losing Lazzaroli Pasta, in what the owner says was an inevitable outcome with rising rents and strong demand for short-term rentals for tourists. ?
- Dickerson Pike in East Nashville is set for a wave of new development, despite it’s reputation as the city’s “red-light district.” The skyline views from that side of town are great.
- There was a lot going on in the sky over Nashville last week, with World War II planes and the Navy’s Blue Angels both performing over downtown.
- The Vanderbilt baseball team rallied after losing the first game in a best-of-three series to Duke at the Super Regional held in Nashville to win the second one in a no-hitter and the third by a wide 13-2 margin. The team is heading to Omaha for the College World Series for the fourth time in program history. ⚾️
- WPLN takes a look at the “food desert” near the James Cayce Homes housing project after the closure of two nearby grocery stores. The USDA defines a food desert as “vapid of fresh fruit, vegetables, and other healthful whole foods.”
