- A ballot referendum to create a community oversight board to handle cases of police misconduct won with nearly 60 percent of the vote. The board must be formed by the end of the year with professional support staff in place, per the amendment.
- Most of the other ballot measures also passed, except the one that can never seem to get any traction in Nashville: expanding term limits for Metro Council members.
- US Representative Marsha Blackburn (R) won her US Senate race over former Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen (D), becoming the first female to win the role and only the second to win a statewide race. Republican Bill Lee (the guy with the HVAC vans around town) also defeated Karl Dean, the former mayor of Nashville.
- As for the State House race, Bob Freeman (D) won his race to replace former Speaker of the House Beth Harwell (R), defeating Brent Moody (R) in a close race. All of Nashville’s representatives in the state legislature are now Democrats.
- Fourteen people were treated for exposure to carbon monoxide in an apparent gas leak Wednesday morning at the Westin Hotel in downtown Nashville. The hotel was evacuated and ventilated prior to allowing guests to return.
- A $3.5 million grant awarded last year to help the city combat youth homelessness is up for discussion this week by a planning group. Members hope to offer housing and support services with the grant.
- Certain long-range forecasts are calling for snow next week, in case Tennessee weather wasn’t weird enough for you yet. Temperatures could get down into the 20s, so make sure you’ve pulled out the winter clothes.
- The Tennessee Titans (4-4) pulled off an impressive 28-14 win road over the Dallas Cowboys (3-5) on Monday Night Football in the middle of a bunch of tornado warnings locally. The Titans host the New England Patriots (7-2) this Sunday (Veterans Day).
- The Nashville Predators (12-3-0) started their annual CMA roadtrip with a 4-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche (7-5-3) in a game where Colton Scissons picked up his second career hat-trick. The team heads to Dallas to face the Stars (8-6-1) Saturday night.
- A man was arrested for the second time since 2015 for selling fake parking tickets downtown, a scam that convinces drivers to pay them less than the posted amount rather than paying the machine. Police say the scam is occurs more often when Nashville hosts large events.
- The upscale retirement party for former Nashville COO Rich Riebeling was paid for by the Music City Center, upsetting at least one council member who alleges that the event came at a cost to taxpayers.
