- Thursday’s elections settled a lot of things, such as four new school board members, major party nominees for governor US House and US Senate as well as those for state House and Senate.
- One thing it didn’t settle was who will be Nashville’s Vice Mayor for the next year or so, so the election-fatigued city will head back to the polls to vote for either council members Jim Shulman or Sheri Weiner. The run-off will be held Thursday, September 13.
- A waitress from April’s Waffle House shooting needs a service animal to help her cope with psychological trauma from the incident and has turned to the community for help.
- TripAdvisor says that East Nashville is one of the coolest “hipster neighborhoods in America” based on things like whether it is “Instagrammable”, has microbreweries and independent coffee shops. When reached for comment, the neighborhood rolled its eyes. ?
- The Nashville Art’s Commission “Build Better Tables” program presented a dinner with New Orleans based chef Tunde Wey titled “H*t Chick’n Shi**t,” which offered an interactive discussion on gentrification in North Nashville. There will be another installment later this month.
- The incident between organizers of the “Community Oversight Now” group and the city clerk that hid in her office from them rather than accept their petition continued to draw headlines, first with the clerk’s apology to the mayor and the organizers then with a follow-up letter clarifying her previous remarks. Elizabeth Waites says that she was once an activist for a police review board.
- Two teenagers allegedly attempted a second carjacking Tuesday evening but were unable to make a getaway because they hadn’t counted on their victim driving a manual transmission vehicle. We imagine the getaway featured a lot of gear grinding and stalls before being apprehended.
- The November ballot for Nashville voters could include as many as six charter amendments, including extending term limits, clarify when replacement elections are held and instituting an instant run-off. A number of the changes were prompted by the February resignation of former Mayor Megan Barry.
- Developers have proposed a 20-story office building to be built on the former home of the Deja Vu strip club downtown, adding yet another high rise to the skyline. The first phase has cleared a bank financing hurdle.
- Your friends at Nashvillest are huge pupusa fans, so this story was written just for us.
- Thieves stole a trailer belonging to county music act Little Big Town, but apparently rather than containing music equipment, it included “two old kid bikes, 1 scooter, a baby pool and a unicorn float.” Not likely the haul the thieves thought they were after, and they badly damaged the trailer on the way out.
- The soon-to-open Shake Shack in Green Hills will feature three unique local items on its menu, including a burger topped with pork cracklins (we’ll let you google what those are).
